Thelma's Gifts to Bentley

It's been a few months since Amy put some barriers up to keep Thelma the Chicken
from coming over to visit us. Since then Thelma has molted and has since
re-grown all of her feathers and is back in the coop with her sister hens.
But there has been a very mysterious event happening every day!

One evening a few weeks ago, Bentley was out in our back yard.
He refused to come in when I called him. I went out to see what he was
doing and I found him eating ...
an egg ~ shell and all!
I thought that was strange, but it didn't make him sick so I thought maybe
a cat went into the hen house next store and stole an egg and left
it in our yard.
But ...
It keeps happening almost every day. One pale blue egg left in our
yard for Bentley to find!!!

Of the four chickens who live next door, Thelma is the only one
who lays pale blue eggs!
Maybe she is pushing them through the slats in the fence as a
little gift for Bentley!
A daily free range farm fresh egg for Bentley.
Is it love???

Bentley just thinks they are yummy!!

Love,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo

  2. How cool is that! Way back in the day, Mom used to make Carnation Instant Breakfast in the blender for us kids - and would toss in a raw egg, shell and all, blend it up, and we'd drink it that way, for extra protein! If People can handle it, dogs can, too - ya think?

  6. Bentley,
Isn't that sweet of Thelma to leave you an egg? I think you should push one of you doggie treats over to her, with that cute little nose of yours :)
    Please tell Momma my idea.

  7. Oh my goodness! That is funny! Chickens are smarter and more clever than we give them credit for. As are dogs, especially Bentley.
Maybe Thelma is training him, or vice versa!

  8. Isn't that amazing! It must be love and how sweet is that Bentley? You have a secret admirer although I think the fact that the gifts are eggs kinds of gives away the secret!
What a wonderful thing life can be!
