A Cozy Afternoon in My Cottage

The weather is terrible.  Cold, windy, blustery stay in the house and get
really cozy kind of weather.  Where is spring anyway?  I decided to stay in
and nest this afternoon.  So I made up a tray with a pot of tea and a sandwich
and my newest book/magazine "Cottage Style".

I really need to unwind.  I started breaking out in eczema yesterday.
That often happens when I have been living with a lot of stress.
Hopefully it will disappear soon because it is most uncomfortable.

Nothing quite like a peanut butter and blackberry jam
sandwich on toasted whole wheat to feel all cozy inside.

I found this Rose Chintz dinner plate at an antique shop and the
owner told me where I could purchase quite a few more pieces
at really great prices.  You and I both know that I do not need any
more dishes.  However, I love this pattern.  So while I certainly
don't need more china~ I certainly do want more of this!

I bought a couple of new fat quarters recently.
Such happy prints.

I am re~reading Savannah Breeze.  I love Mary Kay Andrews.
She is such a fun author.  Have you ever seen her adorable beach
cottage on Tybee Island?  Here is a link to some pics.

So there you have it.  A cozy afternoon in my cottage.
It's a good thing.

Happily Joining ~

Bentley chased a big old raccoon off our deck at 1:00 am this
morning.  Good boy Bentley!

Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  3. Your tea and sandwich look YUMMY ! One of my fave combos hehe ! Everything looks so fresh and pretty ! I hope your eczema clears up I get it to as does Papa but ours is caused by the environment being to cold, to hot, to dry stuff like that . Take care and have a good evening !

  4. Susan, Susan, Susan...you do need to buy more in that beautiful pattern, there is no such thing as too many dishes!

  7. Your day...and weather, sounded very much like mine. Really windy out. And Cold.
So, I had my hubby bake cheese bread (He does all the bread/biscuit/bun baking, Not me)
It tasted good right out of the oven.

  8. Hi Susan....I know exactly how you feel about being stressed -out. That's how it's been around here, too. Someday I'll stay HOME again for an entire 24 hour period. ha!

Love the chintz plate with the miniatures in front of it. So sweet. Susan

  9. Your tray of goodies, the magazine and the book (looks good!) all sound perfect for a down day. I have eczema really bad and nerves make it worse. How I wish there were a cure.

    Take care, sweetie!

  11. Susan, you'll find spring here in TX. '-) I hope you got my email.
Your little mini scene in front of the chintz plate is adorable. And of course you need those chintz dishes. What are you waiting for? Get yourself over to that store. You know what they say........"The time to buy an antique is when you see it!"
Stay warm and cozy and I hope the stress begins to lessen for you soon. ~ Sarah

  14. Hi, Susan! Happy First Full Day of Spring!!! It feels absolutely nothing like Spring here, so I would have done well to take a cue from you and just curl up with something great to read! I'm sorry your eczema is messing with you. I've never had it, but I hear it can be really quite uncomfortable to bear. The dishes you chose are the perfect match to the magazine you curled up with!

Feel better soon, and have a wonderful, quiet, healing weekend!

  16. Oh, I do love your new plate! Beautiful! And it's perfect for a cozy afternoon reading a book! Do you know the pattern? We are expecting more snow on Sunday and my plan is to do all my shopping on Saturday, so I can spend Sunday being completely lazy. I'm going to picture your delightful post while I'm doing this.

  17. Oh, my, I used to LOVE toasted PB and J sandwiches, too! I curled up with a good book this afternoon, because it's back to winter in NE Kansas on the second day of spring!

  18. Sounds like the perfect way to bring a little Spring to a cold winter day! As to buying more dishes...I always say that I drove through Need more than 175 miles ago. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  20. I hope spring will hurry up for both of us! I love your new plate, and that you are keeping cozy indoors.

  21. I guess we have to do what we have to do to bring on spring by ourselves, right? And the dishes are lovely - I say go and get more - I look at it this way: they take up little space, you will use them, they are pretty and make you feel happy - - it's not as if you are collecting "elephants" or "cars", RIGHT????

  22. Looks cozy and wonderful at your house. I have several pieces of Rose Chintz - my grandmother had it when I was a kid - I try to buy some pieces here and there because it's such a pretty pattern.

  25. What a cozy little set-up you have there, Susan! It's cold and rainy here today, but I have tons of laundry to keep my company! I love all of Mary Kay Andrews' books except for Spring Fever. The Fixer Upper is my very favorite! :D

Her house is too, too cute. LOVE it!

Thanks for sharing, and I hope spring arrives soon!

  28. Wow, looks like you've got a great day set up! Seeing your lunch there reminds me of my first pregnancy when my husband would always make me toasted pb&j! I'd forgotten about that! Your book looks interesting too...I've not read that author. Is it a mystery? That's what I've been reading lately. I love to read cozy mysteries but nothing with yucky scenes or a lot of unpleasant things. In fact, Susan Wittig Albert has a great series out based on fictional stories of Beatrix Potter. Great books!

  32. I think a special quiet day with a lovely tea tray and magazine is perfect for this stage before the REAL spring arrives! I too have been having traces of eczema in the past couple of weeks. I have a great ointment from my doctor that I must remember to use. I guess you writing about it will remind me to take it seriously. Thank you for this! I think digging in warm soil will help us both recover!

  33. Adore the miniatures ! Your color selections are some of my favs! Eczema, ugh...my turns into what feels like burning, itching volcanic ash. As long as I stay away from gluten, it goes away. You may want to give it a try. Worked wonders for me and I was able to get of my steroid cream.

  36. Have the magazine, don't know the author, but will check her out. Just lazing around my cottage sounds dreamy to me. I told my son that it was the weekend and I could sit in the garden for 2 days and do nothing if I wanted. But, we are heading to Santa Barbara to look for the perfect fabric for pillows. Then I can sit and read in the garden.

  45. Such a pretty post Susan - but sorry you are under the weather, in more ways than one. I flipped through that mag. recently but put it back on the rack because I'm so far behind with reading my subscription mags - in fact have had to cancel several for the time being.
    Be well soon - dear.

  47. Oh, Susan, that sounds like a wonderful way to spend a cozy afternoon when it's cold outside. I did the same thing, yesterday, drinking endless cups of tea, reading magazines, and curled up by the fire. Spring can't come soon enough, but it's good to find ways to be cozy while we wait.
