My Mom Went To Heaven This Morning

Mom came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  It felt really good to have
her back here even though it would not be for long.  Shortly after she arrived one of the
hospice nurses stopped over to bring all of the meds she would need and instructed
me about my duties.

As we were talking, Mom's breathing became a bit labored.  We administered
comfort measures and she relaxed a bit.  The trip from the hospital in the
ambulance back home must have been a bit disturbing for her.  Later in the
evening the labored breathing began again and this time I became alarmed.
The last thing I wanted was for her to suffer.  The nurse checked on her
and told me it may not be much longer.

Mom passed at 4:38 this morning.  She left my arms into the arms of the
One who will provide her eternal comfort.  My husband told me that she was
just waiting to come back home to her own room, her own family and to
Bentley too who stayed by her side before she felt free to let go.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who left comments of support and prayers
for me.  Also to those of you who sent loving emails.  You all were so kind
to support me and provide the loving encouragement to help me get through
what has been a very tough week.

My Mom and Daddy are back together once again.  There will never be
a day that goes by when I will not miss them both, yet I have comfort
knowing that their eternal life in His presence is their new home.

With Love,
Susan and Bentley

  1. Oh my sweet friend, I'm crying reading your sweet mother's passing. My heart goes out to you right this minute and my prayers too, so you can be strong the first year of her going to heaven. They say the first year is so hard for us and I have experienced it myself with my dad. Like you say, there isn't one day you don't miss them, I still want my dad to be here to talk to him...I'm sorry, I'm feeling sad for you and me right now! My immense feelings go out for you my friend. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  2. I'm so sorry. Hopefully you will peace in your heart that she is dancing with Jesus now . Have you heard the song " I' can only imagine". That was the song that I hung onto when I lost my father. Saying prayers and sending hugs.

  3. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. My mother left this earth in 2006 and there are so many times I wish she could be here for the afternoon or for dinner or for walking through the backyard looking at the flowers. And although it is so difficult to let our parents go, it is so different for those of us who have the hope and knowledge that they are with the Lord, in His care. We grieve, but not as those who have no hope. May God give you peace and comfort.

  7. I opened your blog today, hoping for an update--but I didn't expect this. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I think your mom WAS waiting to come home--to be where she felt comfortable, safe and surrounded by those who loved her (including Bentley) and she felt free to go. Hold your memories close and let them comfort you in the days to come. BIG (((HUGS)))

  11. Susan, I too am so sorry to learn of your mom's passing. At least she was home, surrounded by love as she set off on her next journey. Plant that rose garden and use the plants she helped you select and each time you go there be surrounded by the sweet memories of your mom. Hugs and prayers to you.

  12. Susan, take comfort in the knowledge that your mom and dad are together again in the presence of the Lord, where there is no pain, no suffering, no loneliness. They are in the warm sunshine sitting and enjoying each other's company once again.
May the Lord grant you peace in this knowledge and the knowledge that you will one day see them again.
Hugs to you my dear, dear sister ~

  29. Dearest Susan, I am so sorry for your loss! I so understand the grief that is overtaking you but your mom is free from her body and happy with the Lord and your dad. It is so hard knowing that both parents are gone-we suddenly become an orphan. I well remember when my mom passed, the doctor told us she would never recover from the stroke and would be a vegetable, to tell her it was o.k. to leave. Please know that you will be lifted in prayers in the coming days. Sending big hugs to you.

  30. Susan, I know your heart is broken, but at the same time I know you feel peace for your sweet mom. It's so very difficult to let our loved ones go, even when we know it is time. I'd like to think that perhaps our moms will meet now that they are both in a better place. New friends smiling down on their daughters who are friends. Take care and know that you are in my thoughts.

Years ago I never would have believed that we would be with our parents at home when they passed away. My mother went peacefully at home just as your mother did. It was a blessing for us to be with her when she took her last breath, just as she was for us when we took our first.

Get some rest. Know we love you.

  79. Oh Susan, somehow your blog disappeared from my email and I didn't know about this. I am so sorry. I lost my mom in May of last year. She was 95. I was going through breast cancer treatment at the time and I didn't live close to her at the time. I have prayed that God would give me warm fuzzy memories of her and He has. That is because I didn't feel close to her for a long time because she was very critical. She had the same dresser as your mom. I think it is so cool that you had her living with you for awhile in Victoria. That should bring you comfort. I will pray for you and I am sorry I didn't know about this while it was going on.
