Me? Asthma?

I shared with my Facebook friends how I have been struggling
physically for the last several months.  My allergies have become
much worse.  The sneezing has increased dramatically.  The stuffy
head has been with me all of the time.  I don't sleep well at night.

Then my bronchial tubes started to tighten, especially in the evening
after 5 PM.  It was hard for me to utter more than a few words out loud
before the coughing would begin.

I've never run a fever, just overwhelming allergy symptoms.

I really felt like I was at the end of my rope and about to give in and
head for the doctor when I began to turn a corner this weekend.  For
two straight nights I have been able to breathe easily and to carry on a
conversation without coughing.  Today I have more energy than I have
had for weeks.  I feel so relieved.  I am getting my old life back.

The old adage is true ~ if you don't have your health, you don't have
anything!

  1. I'm so sorry, Susan. I have a chronic lung disease called bronchiectasis along with asthma and coughing is "what I do." Other people don't get it, that it's not the flu, it's just life. I feel for you and am relieved you appear to have turned the corner.

    1. Yes, sometimes we do take good health for granted. I know I certainly have. I am longing to feel 100% once again.

  4. Hi, hope you continue to improve. You might want to have your home checked for molds. Cold temperatures reduce spores released, and that might be a reason for the remission. If it warms, it may start up again.

    1. Yes! Was just going to suggest that also ! If You’ve never had symptoms before you definitely need to check for mold I suffered with extreme congestion and allergies and found out there was mold in my house! Definitely check for mold.

    2. I have been having problems with allergies since I moved here. We are in a sub tropical climate so mold is around us all year round. The Hurricane Harvey event made the whole condition much worse.

  5. I so happy you are feeling so much better. My husband has terrible allergies here in Texas. He didn't have them when we lived in California or Colorado. I don't have allergies here, but I did in Colorado. I feel so bad for him because he is miserable most of the time. He has had the allergy tests and it says he is on the low scale. Too low in fact to warrant allergy shots. I know he isn't imagining his allergies, as he is always sneezing and feeling tired. He would like to move, but our children and grandchildren live here so I want to stay. Wish there was an easy answer.

    1. I sympathize with your hubby! My allergies have been constant here in Texas. Since last summer they took a turn for the worse. Hope your hubby gets some relief. I have to take Benadryl, although I don't like that it makes me drowsy. Bentley has to take it too!

  6. Hey, Susan, a couple of thoughts. This happened to me when I was eating a bunch of peppermints everyday. It was weird! When I stopped eating them my lungs cleared up. If I eat more than a couple of them now I start wheezing again. This after years of no problems with them. Also, I find that my lungs get unhappy if I eat too much wheat. If I only eat it occasionally it's not a problem. It's when I have it 2 or 3 times a day (very easy to do!) that it's a problem. None of this may be of use to you, but I wanted to share my experiences in case this info might help. Hope you resolve whatever it is! Happy Tuesday!

    1. Food allergies can be problematic for some, and it sounds like you suffer from them. Mine are environmental. I think it is all the mold and fungi we have here in South Texas.

    2. Certainly could be! That would be my second guess. It's been a really wet winter in many parts of our country!

  7. So thankful you feel better. I developed asthma when I was 28 and it was a life changer for me. I can't breath well with physical activities so slowly I began to gain weight which made me feel even worse. Doctors tell me to lose weight but I'd have to literally starve because without exercise it's extremely hard to lose weight. I developed Morton's Neuroma in both feet as well as a fracture in one so walking over one block becomes excruciatingly painful. I have had a ton of pity parties along the way then I realize some people have worse lung ailments or other ailments so I pull myself together and face life with asthma. As nightfall comes the air gets heavier and breathing becomes worse as does my coughing. If I have a cold I feel like I can barely breath especially lying down. You are so right about taking good health for granted. I had a pain near my back right side for about a year. Mom said it sounds like a twisted nerve she had. I had to stop and thank God a couple days ago because I noticed that nagging pain has left about a week now. I didn't even realize it and it's been so nice not thinking about it constantly. I pray it doesn't come back. The worse part is losing my fantastic insurance I worked 32 years to have. 3 years after retiring the company (which is still making billions in profits) decided to take it away from the retirees. When we needed it the most they screwed us royally. I've given up one prescription because I couldn't afford 600 bucks and have foregone tests I should have so I wonder what the future holds for me. May you continue to feel better. Take care and give Bentley a bushel of hugs.

  8. I'm so sorry you have been suffering. I have had allergies most of my life and was on allergy shots on two different occasions, 5 year stints each. They helped me a lot with the sneezing, itchy throat and eyes but not with the vertigo symptoms. Texas didn't help mine either. I don't think much will help mine except living in a bubble. There wasn't anything evironmental that I wasn't allergic too except one tree and most animals too. I'm a lost cause I think, I just have to suffer through it all which isn't fun at all so I can really feel your pain. Hopefully after spring is over your symptoms will lessen too. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I love all your blueware and I have two sets of the little dutch shoes. I love them. Hope you have a wonderful sneezy wheezy free rest to your week. ~carol
