Changes For My Blog?

I have been thinking a lot about my blog recently.  Where do I want it to go?
How should it change to reflect the person I am now?  Because I have
changed significantly.

I now live 1800 miles away from where I lived when I started writing
Ash Tree Cottage.  My life has changed in so many ways.  A new state,
a new city, a new house.  My husband and I sold our business and he
started a new career and now I am without one.   My Daddy died three
years (closing in on four now) and my Mom moved down to Texas with
us and is now living with us.

Life altering changes.

Yet despite those changes there are some aspects of our lives that share
common threads.  My husband is now working with a friend he has
known since childhood.  Texas is the place where my husband and I met
and were married.  Although I am not a native Texan, this move has been a
type of homecoming.

But now that the dust is finally settling on our move, I can't help but think what is
next for me?  Anything that I do will have to take my elderly mother into
consideration.  She has become more frail and needs more assistance, so launching
a career outside of my home does not seem to be very feasible now.

The one constant for the past few years has been my blog.  Throughout the
upheaval of the move, my blog has been my grounding.  It has been a
sanctuary where I have been able to connect the loose threads of my life.

I have thought of the cosmetic changes.  A new blog background perhaps?
Will that be enough?

More craft projects, recipes?

Gardening tips?

Sewing?

However these changes express themselves, there will be changes.
And change can be a good thing.  I think I am ready for it.
It will be an new adventure and I hope you will come along with me.

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  4. I think blogs change along with us and that is fun to mix it up a bit and you know I have never met a Texan that does not love Texas. Lucky you to be back.

    1. That's so true about Texans. I don't know exactly what it is about this state, but it does draw you in. Every state is proud, but Texans seem to be the most proud. It is infectious!

  5. We all change and grow, but recognizing these changes can be hard. As for working..... what is your passion? Follow that, and you will be happy. Have you thought of getting a booth in an Antique or Peddlar's mall, or a sharing a small shop with someone? You have a great sense of style and could incorporate that with a small shop business that did not require you to be away from home every day. As for what to blog about.... the things that interest you. Those are always the best topics! Vicki in Louisville KY

    1. You are right about the idea of a shop. I have kicked around the idea of a consignment shop. I also have some notes for a novel. I suppose everyone has a novel in their mind they would like to finally write.

  7. One of the things I like best about a blog is that you follow a person along their personal journey. It takes you to new places, ideas and interests. Wherever you go, we get to follow along.

  10. How about all of the above? And since you're in a new region, your blog design probably would like a new look too.

    1. I may have to figure out how to design my own graphics ~ but probably will rely on a designer. As Brenda said, it's time for a new blog look now that I am in to new local. At the very least a new background. I am getting tired of looking at the old one!

  15. I thought I was following your blog, but apparently I wasn't. But now I am. I enjoyed looking back through your posts and catching up. I was trying to remember where Victoria is -- near San Antonio? We used to live in Arlington.

    1. Victoria is about two hours from everywhere. It is 2 hours southwest of Houston and 2 hours southeast of San Antonio and 2 hours from Austin. A small and lovely city in the "crossroads".

  16. Ok you listed some items so I would like to see your Grandmother's Flower Garden / how you are coming along / where you are with it..you and I both have a love of quilts and I know that you are working on one here and there and I know that a quilt like that can be years or a lifetime project...so that is my request! :) Doesn't mean anything in regards to a major change / just my interest :)

  17. How about little day trip tours? I always enjoy photos of little shops, parks, flower beds, etc. of areas far from me. I bet there are lots of places you could "take" us. Cultural events of your area, farmer's markets, your decor you change as your place becomes yours? If it interests you, you will interest us!

Susan, you have already made such an adventure of all the things that have come up in your life, from the cottage you loved to the house you have chosen and wherever you decide to go with the blog, will be just as fun and exciting, for you, and for anyone who follows your creativity and sense of whimsy!

  24. You've had much transition in your life and it's funny how things just evolve. I recently renamed my blog because it wasn't doing it for me and didn't speak to who I was as well. The name was also limiting and I wanted to blog in life in a broader sense. I do hope you'll come and visit me at my new home. (((hugz)))
