Bentley is the epitome of sweetness but he is also a stickler for rules.
Don't let this darling face fool you because he is a taskmaster :-)
No matter if we are at home or on a relaxing vacation, Bentley's day begins
at 5:30 am. Someone needs to let him out in the early pre~dawn so that he
can scope out the environment for any unwanted intruders. When we are
at home it's easy to do because one of us will just open up the door to the
back porch, but on vacation it can be a bit more work depending on where
we are staying.
For example, last weekend we were staying in a lovely hotel on the
San Antonio River Walk. So at 5:30 am, I had to put on some sweats
and my running shoes and let him out directly onto the River Walk
path. I forgot to bring my cell, but remembered my room key because
the hotel locks that entrance overnight. So we went for a very short little
walk because honestly, it's kind of creepy out there at 5:30 am. When
Bentley finished his duty, we returned to the back entrance.
Guess what???
My room key would not open the back door. Not to panic, I will
just call the front desk from the emergency phone next to the door.
THE PHONE WAS NOT WORKING!
Okay, I am not panicing, I will walk a few steps over under our
balcony and call up to David.
NO LUCK THERE ~ HE DIDN'T HEAR ME.
Quel Nightmare!
Of course, someone finally let me in when they were leaving
through the back entrance to go for a jog. Our drama had ended ;-)
When Bentley has finished his 5:30 am duty, it is imperative that he be
given a treat. After he has finished his treat, he wants to go back to bed.
However he must come up onto the bed from Mama's side. It is not
the proper form to return to bed from Daddy's side. Mama must return to
bed too and lay on her right side only ~ not the left ~ only the right side
so that Bentley can cuddle under the covers with her. He needs to
catch a few more zzzz's and this is the only way to do it.
That is until he gets too hot under the covers. Then and only then,
is Mama allowed to sleep on her left side if she choses.
Got it? Good, because this daily pattern is etched in stone.
But we love him, so we follow his rules to a tee!
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

Susan, That would be a scary situation to find yourself in. I would have been panicking. Love the photo of the room. How fun that you take him with you-Hunter wouldn't enjoy it though-he'd much rather stay with our daughter and her Bichon.
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid day!
Hugs, Noreen
Bentley goes everywhere with us. He loves being spoiled by the hotel staff :-)
DeleteAll because of a dog with rules! lol
ReplyDeleteYes ~ we are his slaves :-)
DeleteIsn't it amazing how they have their routines and we are expected to adhere to them? LOL. Scary about getting locked out - especially at that hour of the morning!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Judy
I walked across the bridge to try to get some help from a fellow setting up tables at a cafe. He didn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish so we couldn't understand each other. I think I need to get Rosetta Stone pronto ;-)
DeleteMy habits are almost as ingrained as Bentley's! (except I don't have to be let outside :) )
ReplyDeleteI have habits too, but my habits seem to be overruled by Bentley's lol
DeleteBentley is such a sweetie!!
ReplyDeleteAnd he has you well trained too!! LOL!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Ha, ha ~ I am indeed well trained. I don't think the dog whisperer would approve ;-)
ReplyDeleteHe's such a sweetheart, and yes they do seem to have their own little schedules and 'to-do' lists :)
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't good to be locked out, and so early in the morning on top of everything !
Spring is in the air, it renews one's spirit, hope you and sweet Bentley enjoy your day.
Hugs,
~Jo
Spring does renew one's spirit. Such a lovely day we are having too!
DeleteBentley is so absolutely adorable!! I love reading about his wonderful personality!!
ReplyDeleteHe keeps us laughing and smiling every day! Love him soooo much!!!
DeleteOne much loved pup that is very spoiled. He is so cute no wonder he gets is way.
ReplyDeleteYes he's cute but he is also very charming. He had us hooked from the moment we brought him home with us at 8 weeks.
DeleteBentley has rules like I do. I totally understand. You're getting locked out reminds me of getting locked in when I took the door knob off a few weeks ago!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
We both need on call locksmiths ;-)
DeleteThis did make me laught. Bentley has got you well trained. Glad you finally got back in. We do so much for our furry friends.
ReplyDeleteRosezeeta.
Of course we do. Our fur babies keep us sane and happy!
DeleteMy Bentley has his rules too! He knows if I am really getting up....or just taking a necessary time. I think it is the sound of my glasses that tells him! He loves to snuggle in bed when he is cold, but when he isn't, he won't come up there regardless of what we do! He must have something treaty in his food, or he won't eat it. And if his water is not to his liking, he will pull the bowl into the middle of the room! I LOVE him so much!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ceekay! Sounds like you and I are both soldiers with our marching orders ;-)
DeleteWell you are the boss
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
I must say Lily and Edward you have your demands too :-)
DeleteOh the rules our little dogs make us follow!! Now we have our little Molly we have to get up much earlier in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThe locking out story sounded very stressful....so glad you got back in ok in the end!
Give Bentley an extra treat from me....he is such a cutie!

Everyone I know who has a dog says that their dog gets them up and out very early in the morning. They all seem to be on the same schedule. We all give into that schedule because they are worth it! That early morning lock out taught me one thing ~
Deletealways carry my cell phone :-)
My babies follow the rules as well. Bubba and Mini know exactly when it's 7am and that it's time to climb in bed with me until breakfast which is promptly at 7:30. Your Bentley is an early riser!
ReplyDeleteMine have a doggie door so I don't have to let them out or I'd be up at 5 am too lol
