My Novel

I have been keeping an idea for a novel in my head for years.  Some form of it has
been evolving in my thoughts and dreams for so long that  I can no longer
keep it to myself and the characters and events have begun to spill themselves
out onto previously blank pages.

The protagonist is a young woman whose heart is filled with adventure and spirit
for the exotic and the truly unique life that only travel to foreign lands can provide.

On her journeys she meets a young man whose passion is as strong as her own.
His attraction to her is powerful yet she does return his love initially.  But as the
days and weeks go by the feelings between the two ignite.  Yet they are star
crossed lovers whose story will not survive because she is unable or  perhaps
unwilling to give into the future, their future, when he presses her for a decision.

She chooses.   Does she make the right decision?  Will she ever find the
man whose devotion to her will match the one she will leave behind?

At London's Heathrow airport, she kisses her lover goodbye.  As he watches her
walk down the gate to her flight to New York, he does not see the tears in her
eyes and she does not see the tears in his.  It's over, or so they think.

In New York she checks on flights to San Francisco.  She has the use of an
apartment there for a month.  It's where her future will begin.  But at the last
moment she spots a flight to Houston that leaves earlier.  In an instant her
free spirit takes control and on a whim she purchases a ticket to Houston
instead.  A whim that will forever change her life.

Texas.  Big, bold, brash.  Not unlike her hometown of Chicago.
Something compelling about the bravado of this state.  At this moment
she has no idea how the larger than life characters she will encounter will
impact her life.

The flight from New York to Houston is a bumpy one.  The life she
will lead in this new city will be bumpy too.

*****

So there you have it.  The beginnings of a novel that has kept me
awake at night and filled my thoughts for several years.  I won't be
able to keep the characters hidden from you much longer.

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

    1. I think all writers put a bit of themselves into a plot, but once you start typing, the characters take over and lead you into a direction all their own. I miss you too Patty! Hope life is treating you well.

  4. I have started many novels. Finished one. Which I tossed when I moved long ago. I just don't have the patience to stick with it.

    1. I wrote a short story once for Ernest Gaines when I took a creative writing course from him years ago. He encouraged me to submit the story to some publishers but I never did. I still have it somewhere. I feel braver now than I did back then.
