Hallmark Christmas Movies Made Me Do It

I have always had a rule for myself, no Christmas decorating until
after Thanksgiving.  So far, I have obeyed my rule.  However, this year
I started thinking about Christmas decorating much sooner than usual.
It's hard not to notice the Christmas decorations that have been out at
Hobby Lobby for some time now.  I tried to avert my eyes as best I
could, but well, I caved, and a couple of things just happened to
creep into my decorating closet.  Partly it's because I don't want to
miss out on the things I like if I wait until after Thanksgiving.  I am
quite sure that the marketing department has me pegged and is
appealing to my weak nature.   What can I say,  I am putty in their
retail honed hands.

But it's not just Hobby Lobby is to blame.  A big source of
of the problem is ....

HALLMARK CHRISTMAS MOVIES!

I will admit, I am an addict.  Some of these movies I have seen several
times.  It doesn't matter!  I love them and will watch them again and
again.  Pretty soon the Christmas theme and scenes are whirling around
in my head and I just have to start planning my own Christmas decor.

Today I was outside for a while with Bentley.  I walked over to my
She Shed and started dreaming of turning it into a Christmas Cottage.
The ideas started coming and now I can hardly wait to start the
transformation.

It's too late now.  Full speed ahead!

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  1. I have been trying to avoid the Christmas Aisles but they got me! I am like you and afraid I'll miss out on something I want if I wait too long. I want to get Scout a pink ballerina ornament and WalMart had them but the pink is sold out already...what? I have another Walmart near me so I'll check it out soon and also Hobby Lobby. I promised myself I would wait but I think I just might break that promise. Hallmark movies are one of the best parts of the season!

    1. Let me know if you can't find the ornament you want at Walmart, and I will look at mine and see if they have it. Also, have you tried online?

  2. I am in total agreement! I love those Hallmark movies & I have already decided I'm decorating before Thanksgiving this year, which is something I never do. You are right, Susan...the Hallmark movies are to blame because I decided on early decorating while watching the movies when they were on in July! lol

  3. I am decorating today. I want eight weeks of Christmas decor this year. Our daughter is having Thanksgiving Dinner for our family of 15 and I will be doing dessert only. The decorations are just beautiful this year at Hobby Lobby. I bought a beautiful 4.5 foot tree yesterday. I love it so much.
    Joyously,
    Betty

    1. I agree! I think the decorations get better and better each year. Is it just me, or have you noticed some more traditional decorations too? Love it!

  4. I scored a red pick up truck at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. I'm glad I did because a week later and they were gone. I'm crafting but not decorating yet.

    1. Everyone wants a red truck. I'll tell you a little secret, when I first started dating my future husband, he drove a red truck. One Saturday afternoon we switched vehicles. I drove that truck around all afternoon and loved it! Being from the North Shore of Chicago, I had never driven a pick-up before. I still think fondly of that old truck and wish he still had it!!!

  5. LOL- Not sure what I am going to do for Christmas this year. It is weird being in a rental for the first time in 45 years! Super weird...but I am still dreaming and planning on doing something.
Can't wait to see your she-shed all decked out. xo Diana

    1. When I lived in Bahrain, I of course was in a rental house. It's a Muslim country, so no Christmas celebrations going on. I found a British cold store where I could order a live Christmas tree from Lebanon, so I did. I decorated it with home made ornaments and invited 25 people over for Christmas dinner because I was the only one with a tree. It was a very memorable Christmas, and you will have one too. Think of it as an adventure.

  6. Hi Susan! I just love Hallmark Christmas movies. Like you, I've watched many of them over (and over!) again. I know your she shed will be a cozy Christmas spot! Jane

    1. The movies are a tad corny, but I'll take corny any day. The mood of the nation has been so sad lately and I really appreciate that the Hallmark Channel is a safe haven!

  7. I have the same rule. However, I do shop Hobby Lobby when it has Christmas out. I just wait to put it up! I am a Christmas hoarder. Every year I think I have all themes they could possibly come up with and bam!

We have cut out cable and use the internet but my sweet husband subscribed to Hallmark for me during the holidays. He even watches a few with me!

  8. I just have to get through my art sale in the next two weeks -- so behind having just returned from the Europe trip. THEN I can deal with Christmas. And yes, I've been seeing those Hallmark movies too. Can't believe the year is flying so fast.
