Grandma's Pinkies

Happy Pink Saturday and Happy May Day to everyone! Today I have three pink items from my Grandmother. A portrait of a young woman made with pink ribbons, a platter with faded pink roses and a pink transferware pitcher made by Staffordshire depicting the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, Virginia. These items were favorites of my Grandmother and they are treasures for me.

This platter was given to my Grandmother by her own Mother. It is quite old and the glazing is cracked, but to me that makes it even more dear. It has been well loved and has served many a family meal over the generations.

I love the delicate pink roses on the rim. There is also a slight scallop which
I think is very charming.

Here is the pitcher. The glazing on this piece is cracked as well making it look a bit discolored on the rim and handle. My Grandmother could trace her roots back to Mary Ball Washington and she was a great lover of the history of our nation.

Grandma had this picture in her bedroom. It was one of her favorites, and it's one of mine too. Thank you so much for visiting me today and thank you to our lovely hostess Beverly! Be sure to visit her blog How Sweet the Sound for her Pink Saturday presentation and all of the other participants as well. Be sure to pick up a copy of Artful Blogging and see Beverly's site listed. It's a great honor! Until next time, have a wonderful weekend with those you love!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

  3. My goodness, how old must that plate be? I think you can safely say it's a genuine antique now. Love the ribbon lady too.

  5. What special treasures you have. That picture is just beautiful. Is the lady's dress made from real lace and ribbons? So unusual and lovely. I can see why it is a favorite. I enjoyed visiting with you today. Hope you have a happy Pink Saturday.

  8. Happy Pink Saturday Sweet Susan.... :-)

I adore vintage things, but when they belonged to someone you loved it makes them all the more special, doesn't it? What lovely treasures. I am crazy over platters....why, I do not know, but I keep collecting them. I'm out of room....but it seems I can't turn my back and walk away. :-)

Have a wonderful weekend sweet girl!

  9. Happy Pink Saturday Susan Sweetie...
I love this post. So beautiful is the platter. It is just exquisite with the slightly ruffled edging and the dainty little flower bouquets around the edging.

I adore the little pitcher. The photos they put on the pitchers back then were so detailed and actually showed photos, not just simplicity like we get today. I love the old colored shading on the handle. Makes you think about all the times your precious Grandmother picked it up, and poured from it. You just want to touch the handle over and over. So precious sweetie.

Now that ruffled lace photo is just DDG. I love it. What excellent care was taken of each of these items, and they will be passed for many generations to come I am sure.

Thank you so much for sharing with me today. I am your newest follower. I can't wait to see what you share next. Please stop by and say hi. I would love to share my Pink Post with you as well. I would be honored if you signed up to follow my blog as well. Country hugs sweetie...Sherry

  10. Happy Pink Saturday Susan! I love your grandma's lace lady picture! I want to make one like that when I have time. Your platter looks almost identical to one that I inherited from my grandmother. I'll have to take a closer look next time I use it!

  12. Hi Susan,
Where to start??? I love everything...it's all just gorgeous and what treasures handed through the generations. I love the Colonial Girl with her lace and ribbons..she's beautiful. There is a pattern in one of the Sunbonnet craft magazines..(they didn't last long apparently)that is similar to this. I've wanted to make it..but I've just never gotten to it.
Happy Pinks and I hope you and that sweet Bentley have a wonderful weekend.

  19. Hi Susan! Just got your comment, so in answer to that, I'll start by saying I do think it's strange that the floss is doing that. Next I would ask if the floss is old or new, and then perhaps I would question the brand of floss. I have regular spools of thread that are beautiful colors but it's such a shame that I can't use them because they are too old, and the thread breaks MUCH too easily! So I wonder if the same is happening with your floss. As for the brand, I use DMC. I'm really not sure what other brands are out there, but DMC works well for me, and always has! One more thing, I don't know which video you saw, but I usually use 3 strands of the floss at a time. Are you using more or less?.. Another factor to check is if your floss is shredding with different kinds of fabrics, or is it just shredding no matter what kind of fabric you're using?.. Hope this helps. I'm really not a pro with this kind of needlework myself, as I usually crochet. Are you thinking of joining in on this project! You could if you want! Other girls are just starting too, so you wouldn't be terribly behind by any means!... Well, I think I'm going to try to get a little work on mine done before I head to bed for the night! ~tina
