Neighborhood Tour Part Two

Here we are, back in my neighborhood to stroll by more homes

More two story colonials.

A magnificent nearly 6,000 square foot mid century modern.

I can just imagine Frank Sinatra mixing cocktails inside right now.  The
house sits on three city lots filled with magnificent old live oak trees.

Love the tropicals.

Ah the white picket fence.

A beautiful rambling ranch.  Very Texas Hill Country.

Charming.

Another colonial.

Southern charm complete with moss hanging off the trees.

Just look at all the wrought iron!

Simple and sweet.  So now you are seeing what Bentley and I see
ever time we take a walk.  It's our new hood.

Happily Joining ~

Bentley had marinated grilled tuna for dinner.
Can we all admit he is a wee bit spoiled?

Pink Saturday Y'All and Tour Number One

So for this Labor Day weekend I am going to take you on a little tour of
my new neighborhood.  We are in the College Park neighborhood.  It's
newly listed on the Historic Victoria Home Tour.  Many of the houses were
built in the late 1940's and early 1950's.  I just could hardly wait to show you
this adorable house and if you peek behind the column of the front porch
you will see why it is perfect for Pink Saturday.

See ... what did I tell you, Pink Saturday perfection!  Don't you just love
a family who has the hutzpah to paint their front door pink?  I sure do.
Although the house does not look all that big, it goes out the back a bit
and has a huge "garage mahal" on the side.

While this home does not have any pink, it is a charming two story colonial.

Brick walkways are hugely popular in this neighborhood.  Our house has
one too.

This one is a beauty.  It is nearly 6,000 square feet all on one level.
It is currently on the market.  The owner is downsizing and moving into
a slightly smaller house one block away from me.  I wish I could convince
my Aunt Susan to leave Chicago and move into this house!  It would be
great fun to have both my Mom and her sister close by.  More pics
this weekend.  See y'all then!

My English Cottage Hutch

You all have seen my English cottage hutch before, but now it
not only has a new home in the dinette area off my kitchen, it also
has a few vintage pieces added to it.

I have incorporated Mom's sweet hobnail pitcher and brought out the
toast rack front and center.  Do you notice those adorable
cream soups off to the right?  They belong to Mom too.

That's the beauty of blue and white china ~ all the pieces just
seem to work together even though the patterns are different.

Of course there is still a bit of Beatrix Potter because it is an English
style hutch after all.

I love things that look cozy and I love cozy mysteries too.  I am
currently reading The Garden Plot by J.S. Borthwick.  I have
been savoring a chapter each night.

Little by little things are coming together around here.

We are getting so anxious to get everything done!

Happily Joining ~

Bentley spent so much time trying to entertain us while we
have been unpacking and staging that now he's sacked out in
a chair sound asleep!

Niche Metamorphosis

Yesterday we played around with the two niches in the
dining room.  It is an ideal space to show off some of Mom's
extensive blue and white collection.

It did not take long to come up with a design we both liked.

It is really fun to showcase favorite pieces.

Little treasures collected over the years.

And yes ... we are STILL unpacking.  The packers had their own idea of
how to label boxes.  A box may be labeled "dining room" but there are
maybe only two or three items from the dining room and then the rest of
the box is filled with stuff from other rooms.  Each box is a complete
surprise!

Still searching for lamp shades and missing parts.  Have not found
much that belongs to my kitchen hutch but I am hopeful that this
afternoon I might make some progress in that direction.  Keeping my
fingers crossed!

Bentley was able to visit with his neighbor Toby the
Jack Russell terrier this morning before it started to rain
so hard that they both had to come inside to stay dry.  So
happy the Bentley has a new friend.

Come See The Progress On The Back Porch

I finally found the first of several boxes that contain the dishes
for my big hutch.  Things are starting to look homier.  We have
set up the back porch a bit.  It's the place where we have our
morning coffee/tea and the place we go to when we become
completely overwhelmed by the stacks and stacks of boxes.

This house has a small front porch, but a fairly large back one.  We
are loving it.  You can't see it in this pic, but there is a ceiling fan.
That fan works overtime to keep us cool!

We put lamps out here and like to sit out in the evening after
the sun goes down.  We are still spraying ourselves with Off.  Have
not called the mosquito mister guy yet, but need to soon because
we are big time porch people.

Can't wait to finish the packing so that we can start playing in
the garden.

Found the chains to hang the porch swing, so hopefully that will get
done this weekend.  Do I have the hooks?  Don't know yet.

Well, that's it for now.  More later after more unpacking.
Until then, I am relaxing on the back porch.  Come
join me!

Happily Joining ~

Mom and Bentley were so pooped from unpacking
that they took a nap together this afternoon, completely
abandoning me to the never ending stack of boxes.

Moving Malaise

Whenever one moves there are so many little details to tend to.
One of the eye hooks that holds up the wire on the back of this
picture frame came loose today.  I replaced it and then ended up
replacing the wire as well.  I was very careful because the frame
is very old and came from my great grandmother's farm in
Pennsylvania.  I don't know what painting was in the frame
originally, but the frame is ancient and fragile.

This sconce is fragile too.  While my Daddy was in Rome on Business
years ago, he learned of an estate sale and found a pair of these sconces.
One of candle holders is loose and I am not quite sure how to repair it.

Thankfully this cordial holder is in good shape because I am
too pooped to handle any more repairs for today.

Bentley is quite happy.  Some of his toys were
unpacked today and it was as though he saw an
old friend!

I Have Been Tweaking Again

Here we are before any tweaking ...

And now after some tweaking has been done.
Of course, I still need to paint this room to match the
bedroom, but I think I better finish unpacking first.

Can you believe that we are still unpacking?  Well we are!

Packing got delayed a bit while we were overlooking the
purchase agreement for our old house.  That's a bit of an
excuse.  I will take any excuse I can to take a break from
unpacking ;-)  But today, it is full speed ahead.

At least, that's the plan lol!

Happily Joining ~

Bentley ~ I just spotted your grandma carrying a little
chandelier off to her bedroom.  I think she is doing
a little bit of tweaking too!

A Peak At Master Bedroom Pinks

Here is a sneak peak of the what's been put in place in our
master bedroom so far.  Notice Bentley looking up at the bed.
Believe it or little Bentley can very easily jump up on our
bed with no assistance.  He's his mama's little acrobat!

I am taking my time putting up pictures etc.  I want to make sure I can live
with the placement for a while before I change it.

I love these pink toile plates.  I often hang plates on the wall.
This is a vintage botanical print I found in a wonderful old
antique shop in Boise that unfortunately no longer exists.

Here is an area that is still evolving, but I have some
ideas I will share with you later.

I love this chair!  We were lucky enough to have inherited
it from David's mom.  She had it in her bedroom too, and I
hope that she would approve of it's placement in our home.

Love this view from the chair next to the window.
Well, that's it for now.  Have to keep unpacking!

Happily Joining ~

Bentley just noticed a big black cat taking a nap on
the patio.  He chased him away and is now double
and triple checking every square inch of his yard to
make sure the cat is really gone.  I think the
squirrel up in the tree is laughing lol ;-)
