A Petite Pink Pincushion

I had some fabric scraps and decided to make my first pincushion.
It's not perfect, but I still think it is cute.

It certainly was fun to make and now that I have given it a try,
expect to see more pincushion creations from me.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to coax my miniature
African violet to produce blooms?  I feed it once a week with food
especially for African violets.  I water from the bottom.  I put it near a
window to give it plenty of light.  I turn it a quarter turn each day.
I talk to it and give it lots of encouragement ... but no blooms yet.
It's so adorable and it was full of blooms when I bought it, but none
since.

Have a fun weekend everyone and be sure to stop by to visit
Beverly for ~

Bentley ~ I just received a text message from Tina.  If
she can make it she will stop by and give you a haircut today.
Try very hard to be a good boy when she comes over!

Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  3. Your pincushion is adorable. I have never made one, but I think you have inspired me. What did you stuff it with?
Your african violet may just be resting. Mine don't bloom all the time and in between blooms, they rest.
Have a wonderful day my friend ;-)

  5. Your pincushion is so sweet! Love the African violet in a teacup. As far as getting them to bloom, what works for me is totally ignoring them. Seriously, I water only once a week (from the bottom), haven't fed them in as long as I can remember, and yet they flourish. It takes time though. They bloom when they want to.

  6. Oh what a lovely pin cushion Susan! I hope you will make many more. I wish I had not thrown in the towel when I was younger and that my fingers were more nimble today. (we never think we will really get old and our bodies will fall apart) My darling Grandmother helped me make a quilt. I wish I'd paid more attention to her instructions and also to my Home Economics teacher. I long to sew, to make something beautiful and to be creative. If only... -Susan, you are inspiring! Maybe one day a needle will find its way back into these wrinkled hands again.

I hope Bently will enjoy his new do.I bet he will be a super good boy. Toby gets car sick. So his groomer visits him in her traveling salon-van. A gyspy groomer on wheels. Toby adores her.

Keep the "preties" coming. They lift my heart. :)

  7. I am convinced that African Violets are a lot like people. Some are stubborn and will do what they want, no matter how much nurturing you try to give or how well you tend to them. I've never had any luck with them. I hope you do.

  9. Oh how cute! And won't that make your sewing and crafting even more fun! It reminds me a bit of a lovely one a friend made for me - she took a china cup that was my grandmother's and made the pincushion in the top of the cup. So pretty AND full of sweet family memories. Thanks for the lovely reminder on this Pink Saturday.

  10. Far a first time, you did an excellent job on the pin cushion. I used to have violets, but they are hard to take care, and gave them up. It will bloom when it gets ready.

  13. Happy Pink Saturday!
Your pincushion is so cute! You did a fabulous job and in my favorite colors!

As to your African Violets....just be patient. They will bloom as you are doing all the right things. Mine go through spells of not blooming and just when I think they never will, I will see a little curved bud starting under the leaves...

  21. If this darling piece was made from fabric scraps, I would love to see the other projects - what beautiful colors and patterns! My mother-in-law used to grow African Violets with great success and I think it is the light. At one time, she had tons of them growing under a fluorescent light. I kept one alive and blooming for a very long time, but it was mere luck!! Happy Pink Saturday!

  31. Good Morning Susan and Bentley Sweeties...
What a wonderful share. I love, LOVE your beautiful pincushion that you made. It is priceless. I love the button heart that you added to the center, the element of surprise. Color choices of course were perfect. I have always wanted to try to make one, but have never took on the challenge. You are a very brave gal, and did an absolutely awesome job.

I had a violet that I always kept at work. It bloomed beautifully off and on, and one day I decided to bring it home. (BIG mistake.) Sadly it died and I have never replaced it, but it sounds like to me you are doing all the right things sweet friend. Just be patient. She will show soon.

Bentley sweetie, sounds like you are in for a bath and trim, what fun for you. I know, I know it is not your happy time, but be good for Momma. She might even have a treat for you.

Have a glorious Sunday sweet friend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
