My Mom Had a Stroke

My Mom had a stroke last night.  I just came back from the hospital and
from visiting her doctor.  The prognosis is not good.  Fourteen hours into
the stroke she is still unresponsive.  The will do a full stroke workup and
we are all praying for the best, but he told me to prepare for the worst.

This is her favorite spot in the garden.  I hope she will be able to sit
there once again.  While the doctor believes she will not, I am not
going to stop hoping that she will.

This all happened so suddenly.  One moment she was fine and the next
one she was not.  The other day I posted about how my life had changed so
drastically in the past few months never thinking that in a couple of
days it would go through yet another drastic change.

I am feeling very numb.  It's hard for me to be home right now because
every room reminds me of her.  Since she is in ICU, the visiting hours
are very limited so I will live in limbo until I can see her again.

I know I may have to let her go and that if I do I hope she will be
with my Daddy once again.  I know that she has missed him so much
these past three plus years.  But I just don't feel ready for this.  I doubt
that there is a way to be ready.

I will let you know what happens.  Until then I will not be posting.

Love,
Susan

  19. This is a hard situation and many of us have been through it, so we understand. Keep knowing that God is in control and His will be done. I pray for the doctors and their knowledge, the nurses and their compassion, and for you and your husband. I still believe in miracles! Vicki in Louisville KY

  20. Susan, I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's stroke! The most awful thing about strokes is they generally come without warning and can be so devastating. My mom had several of them over the last years of her life. They paralyzed her left side and forced her into a nursing home which she despised. Watching a parent struggle against the effects of a stroke is heart-wrenchingly difficult. One feels so helpless! I hope that your mother's condition improves and she recovers from this blow. And I most definitely know that you will find the strength you need to help you get through whatever outcome there is. Hugs to you from your Austin "neighbor", Mellodee.

  28. Dear Susan, My heart hurts for you today. I understand because 40 yrs ago my mom passed from a stroke. Medicine has come so far and I'm praying that the doctors will have wisdom as they treat her. I'm surprised the hospital won't let you into ICU at any time, just so you can be there. Also, one thing I do know is that it is very important for you to talk to your mom-she can hear you even if she can't respond.
    Hugs, Noreen
