Y'All Stop By for a Cup of Tea

Spring is on the threshold and you know what that means ~
tea on the Ash Tree Cottage porch, both in miniature and full size.

Tea in the garden both shabby and chic.

Tea served on wicker.  After all, what's a cottage without a few vintage wicker chairs?

Now that's an "out take".  Bentley was digging in the dirt, he has some in his
hair, but he still wants to see what we are doing.

We drink tea even while camping in the backyard.

And when we go over to my Mom's house, we drink tea in her
solarium.  Y'all come join us, you hear?

Bentley ~ I am still working on your "special feature", but maybe we
should also do a post about your "out takes".

Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

I Love Mason and Ball Jars

Like most of us out in blog land, I use my vintage Mason Jars to hold flowers
and decorate.

But ...

I also use my Mason and Ball Jars for storage.  I live in a 99 year old house and my
pantry is out on my enclosed back porch.  I have lots of windows and open shelves
which I keep stocked with pasta and rice.

Barley and pop corn and Lentilles du Puy  which I like to keep in a cute
little stubby Ball Jar.

Handy tins and scoops.

And ...

Peanut butter dog biscuits for good boys.  Bentley has been very good and
the treatie jar needs to be refilled.

I love Mason and Ball Jars!  Decorative and useful too.

I am joining

and

Did I say treatie Bentley?  Did you hear that?
You did  ... okay I better pay up!

Living the Life

It's fun being a blogger.  I have the opportunity to share lots of mini creations
with you. I am playing with dishes ~ creamy white bowls, a little tea pot,
an old McCann's Oatmeal can filled with parsley.

Oh how easy it is to amuse myself!

Have a wonderful and happy Sunday amusing yourselves with things you
love to do.

Bentley is full of beans.  He has been racing around the yard chasing
squirrels and then he runs back inside and tosses his toys in the air
waiting for us to applaud his achievements.  He never fails to amuse!

What Makes You Happy?

Here is what makes me happy ...
Sunset over the Pacific coast.

Bentley's sweet face even after a bad haircut.

This cute pic of my husband when he was a little boy.

A vintage ballerina music box.

The pond that my Mom's house overlooks.  There is her solarium over looking
the pond.

What makes you happy?

Of course Bentley ~ you always make me happy!

Something's Coming

I worked all day today, but I took the time to take a short walk outside for my
lunch break.  It was an unseasonably warm afternoon.  The sun felt good on my
face and I knew ~ something is coming.

Soon we will see pansies...

beautiful irises ...

and bleeding hearts.

We will plan tea parties in the garden ...

and more tea parties.  We will feel the cool leaves of grass beneath our feet
and ...

we will rejoice!  Ah spring.  It's coming ~ and I could feel it in the air today!

You feel it too ~ don't you Bentley!

It's The Season For Love

It seems as though I was just taking pics for Christmas and now we are
coming up on Valentine's Day!

It's time to pull out the hearts and flowers and get ready for ...

the season of love!  I am joining Seasonal Sundays  to see what wonderful
seasonal ideas are happening there.

Bentley and his daddy are napping on the sofa.  I am being very quiet so
that I don't disturb them.  Maybe I will go paint something.

Hours to Cook ~ 10 Minutes to Eat!

The heart of the home ~ the command center.  The place where I pan saute,
bake, broil and have worked through all of the recipes in Julia Child's
Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volumes 1 and 2.

But ...

You know what?  No matter how many hours I spend in front of this stove
attempting to create a culinary masterpiece ...

IT ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES TO EAT!!!

And it all happens again tomorrow for Sunday dinner!

I am taking a break from the kitchen to visit

Oh well Bentley ~ c'est la vie!!

Tartan Holiday Travels

I won't be traveling out of town for Christmas, but if I were, this
is how I would like to arrive ~ in holiday tartan style!

I love this vintage round tartan case.  Just my style.

I can just imagine riding on a train looking out the windows upon snowy vistas.
Unpacking my bag at a Holiday Inn destination.  What vintage style fun!

I am joining The Tablescaper for some

Bentley and I have some fun Christmas posts planned for this week and
don't miss Bentley's Special Birthday post this coming Wednesday.
Bentley will be celebrating his 6th birthday!

Decorating My Front Porch for Christmas

Although I love Christmas lights on the cottage, I also enjoy making
my front porch look festive for the holidays.  I love coming home, walking
through the front gate and seeing a cheerful and welcoming display of
jolly, holly, fun.

Remember the movie Miracle on 34th Street when Santa leaves his cane
by the fireplace to let Maureen O'Hara and John Payne know that he did
indeed give Susie her Christmas wish of her very own house?  Well that is
one of my favorite scenes, so I decorated a vintage walking stick in memory
of that scene.  It's my little reminder that wishes do come true.

I always like to hang up Christmas stockings on the porch as well
as on the mantel inside!  Never hurts to be prepared.

A wrapped present on the wicker rocker.  Actually, there is nothing inside,
just an empty box ~ but it still looks festive.

Another little wicker rocker with some Christmas cheer.  There is more to
do.  I want to put a tree on the porch this year.  Oh and David needs to hang
the snowflake lights and I need to add the candles in the windows.  Come back
to see the results!

I am joining

While I was decorating the front porch, the postman arrived.  Bentley was
there to greet him.  Bentley loves our postman and is always anxious to
greet him with a big kiss.  It's really funny because Bentley raises a paw and
waves to him and gives him a big grin too when he walks through the gate.
Too cute!!

A Childhood Christmas Tablescape

Set a table for the kids this Christmas.  Plan a lunch or dinner with a toyland
tablescape.  Create a playful centerpiece.

Keep everything jolly.

Great for children and the child that still lives within us all.

After dinner, read a Christmas story.  I love this one by Beatrix Potter.
I like to read it every year during the Christmas season.

Let your heart be young and don't forget to kiss Santa under the mistletoe!

Please join me to visit

Bentley ~ let's get out your Christmas dish.  You like to be festive for
the holidays too!

Susan and Bentley

The Decorating Ghosts of Christmas Past

One of the wonderful things about having a blog is that you can look at old
seasonal photos from years gone by and remember what you liked about a
holiday decorating scheme.

These are a few of my favorites from last year.  This was my Sun Valley
Christmas cloche.  It was fun putting it together for one of Marty's
cloche parties.

This is another one of my favorites.  Love that Christmas card that looks
like a vintage postage stamp!

And this darling little bird is another favorite.
Now that I have the Christmas boxes down from the attic, I wonder what
I will create this year?

For more inspiration I am headed over to

and

Okay Bentley ~ let's gather up all of your Christmas themed
squeak toys and put them in a wagon for your display!

Hey Love ~ Let's Go for a Hike!

Hey lovie ~ let's go for a hike!

Oh ~ I don't know it's cold out there.  Just look at that popcorn snow!

No worries ~ we can bring provisions to stay warm and toasty.
Come on ~ it will be fun!

Okay ~ you talked me into it!

After the hike I will warm up by the fire and visit

Come on Bentley ~ let's find a sweater for you so that we all
can take a hike up in the foothills.  I think it snowed up there last night!

Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
