As I mentioned yesterday, I have been feeling a little bit depressed lately.
And as so many of you have very wisely mentioned, it is understandable
after all the excitement and business of a cross country move to feel
a let down when things settle down.
That being said ~ I am not one to feel sorry for myself for long and
I want to pull myself out of my funk asap.
My prescription? Go visit happy places. The first happy place on
my list is:
Susan has the self professed happy gene and it is impossible to
continue feeling blue when I visit her! Her happiness and joy for
life's simple pleasures makes me feel warm and cozy. She
cancels out any feelings of sadness. Thank you Susan!
And the next stop on my list is:
source
Aunt Ruthie's Sugar Pie Farmhouse. It is impossible not to feel
cheerful after a visit to her home just brimming with goodness.
When my Daddy was still alive and suffering from the ravages of
Alzheimer's, Aunt Ruthie kept me going.
Happy images both graphic and real, are unbeatable for chasing away
the blues.

Thank you Ruthie!
Something else helps me feel better too. Artistic therapy I call it and it means
a visit to this creative lady ...

Helen Philipps
Her oh so charming crafts amaze and delight me. Just look at that darling
bird and the happy colors. How can one possibly be sad now?
Crochet and quilts that charm and fill my heart with joy. What a talent she
has! Thank you Helen for many happy hours spent admiring your work.
And nourishment for the body and soul come from this
sweet gal ...
Dear Yvonne has fed my tummy and my soul. While I was so
busy and weary from selling both my Mom's house and my own
back in Idaho and preparing the move of two households at once,
Yvonne kept praying for me. She prayed for me to have the strength
and the courage to get the job done. Thank you so much Yvonne.
I know that all your prayers for us were indeed answered because
things fell into place with such ease.
And ...
I am always pouring over her yummy recipes and she is the one
I turn to when I run out of ideas for what to serve for dinner.
Thank you Yvonne!
And then there is the land of doll houses ...
and two of my favorite miniature artists ...
Just look at this precious hutch filled with apples and pie.
Rush over to visit her and be charmed by mini goodness.
and of course ...
the creator of Cynthia's Cottage Design. These two enormously talented
miniature artists convince me that I needed to get a dollhouse. Trust me, it's
hard to stay sad when you walk into the world of minis. Kim and Cynthia have
collaborated with Maritza Moran to create a wonderful new mini mag called
Go check it out and sign up too if you like it. If you have not met Maritza
yet, prepare to be wowed by going here.
Don't forget the healing powers of a cozy mystery like
any of the Aunt Dimity Series. A cozy mystery, a cup of
tea and a comfy quilt have magical healing powers too.
So if you ever have a sad day like I did yesterday, give some
of these suggestions a try.
Wishing Y'all Sunshine and Happiness,
Susan and Bentley

ReplyDeleteI have to visit some of these links. Yes, Sometimes when I'm feeling a little down, a blog can lift my spirits tremendously. Hope you're feeling like your old self soon, Susan!

ReplyDeleteHelen Philipps is the most amazing artist ever! I am so in love with everything she makes, her colors, her style - everything! I have to agree she could seriously cheer someone up! But now I must go visit the others you've introduced me to - glad you're feeling better, and remember, it's a process.
ReplyDeleteLove you bunches, Mary
Love Helen! I think she was born with the color gene. I want you to do something. Every single day, give yourself a gift. Maybe a latte at Starbucks if you like coffee. Doesn't have to be a big thing. Maybe a decorating magazine. Moments in the sunlight. Anything that makes you happy is a gift. Please give it to yourself now. For a few weeks. Until the gift of simple days engages you again. It will.

Susan, I hope you are enjoying the beauty of a Texas autumn. I know it's not the crisp cold feeling of where you lived, but after a long hot summer these fresh days are what make me smile with happiness. Brenda has good advice. Give yourself a special little treat everyday for a while, even if it's just a walk in a pretty park with Bentley. Take care and be kind to yourself. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your happy therapy. I love miniatures and I bookmarked those sights right away. Sometimes I feel blue too. Not often anymore (no hormones left I guess). My crafts and the garden have always inspired me and lifted me back out of the funk. I agree that you could benefit greatly from letting yourself enjoy some kind of special treat each day. Take care.... Candy
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about Susan Branch today when I read the article about them photographing her house for Yankee Magazine. She is just one happy woman, lives in a charmed old house and on a beautiful island. Her talent knows no boundaries. I even printed a picture of Jack the great looking kitty on her paint table! I'm a painter and I drool over any water color pallets! I love Aunt Ruthie's pantry. That makes me smile every time I see it featured! Yesterday I was feeling so down I could have sworn I was fixing to have a period, but I know that's not possible. So I retreated to my paint table and dabbled in painting some pumpkins for post cards and it helped so much! Feel better, get rested...
ReplyDeleteDear Susan . . . what a blessed way to turn a bit of a "down day" into joy for ALL OF US!!! Thank you for sharing your "feel good" blogs. You and I follow several of the same blogs, but I enjoyed adding the two lovely miniature bloggers (Kim and Cynthia) to the list of bloggers I follow regularly. You TOP MY LIST, honey! We moved almost 1 year ago after 35+ years in one location and it is such a major, consuming undertaking that I do believe it is followed by a bit of depression. I've moved through that and I am so looking forward to being able to "snuggle in" for the winter. Actually, I love our long, dark Minnesota winters because life "slows" a bit and I have more time for home and creativity. Thanks for sharing and being so "real" with your followers. Love to Bentley!
ReplyDeleteYou have shown some my favorite blogs and introduced me to a couple new ones. Thank you. I have a doll cottage under my coffee table. I am going to build it someday but there is so much else I want to do also. Quilts, dolls, needlepoint, cooking .... Not enough hours.....
ReplyDeleteSusan Branch is just the best! I'm sure you have her newest book on England. What fun it is and so loverly. Thanks for the other links and for your tribute to our dear Benny.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing some happiness that brightens your day. I hope that you're feeling more at home in your new surroundings. Your little minis on your kitchen window added some cheer to my day. xo
