Resources for Dollhouse Miniatures

If you are interested in starting or adding onto a miniature dollhouse, you
will find that the options for decorating are quite extensive.  The prices
range from affordable to expensive museum quality and is all limited
by your budget.  While I love miniatures and enjoy collecting them,
I have a budget and must always keep that in mind.

For example, this hutch was purchased on eBay a few years ago.
It was unfinished and I painted it to fit my dollhouse decor.  As I
recall, all of the accessories on this hutch came from different vendors
on eBay.  Here is an excellent eBay Miniature Shop.  Lots of items
and great variety.  I will let you explore more mini shops on eBay
because there are quite a few of them.  I tend to stick with vendors in
the US and don't buy direct from China, but you certainly can.  I
just don't have any experience with Chinese vendors on eBay so I
don't feel comfortable recommending them yet.

I have purchased quite a few things from New England Miniatures.
They have good quality and quick and efficient service.

Over the years my Mom purchased many things from
Hobby Builders Supply.  She loved this vendor because she could order
from their catalog which was delivered to her house every couple of
months.  This is a full service dollhouse vendor carrying everything
from dollhouse kits and building supplies as well as furnishings and
a huge variety of accessories.  I still receive their catalog and although
I love to shop online, it's fun to have a catalog that I can hold in my
hands and page through.  When I bring books and magazines with me
on a long trip, there will often be this dollhouse catalog in my bag.

Etsy is a great resource for artisan miniatures.  These shops tend to fill
the gaps left by the mainstream dollhouse miniature vendors.  The
creativity of some of these vendors will knock your socks off.  I also
think that their accessories will help you to create your own look.

Just last week I purchased this adorable little Cherry Cupcake clock
from Roxanne Fern.  Her shop is Baking in Miniature.  She has adorable
miniature baking accessories and books.  She also offers play scale in
addition to the miniatures, perfect for the little girl in your life who is
not old enough yet for the minis.  Roxanne will design something for
you too.  I really enjoyed dealing with this creative gal and her service
is excellent.  Highly recommend.

There are lots of miniature artisans on etsy, so indulge yourself during
your free time to check out their beautiful work.  Check out fellow
blogger Kim Saulter at Kim's Mini Bakery.  She is so talented and
her things sell out really, really fast.  She only produces a few things
at a time so sometimes she has nothing to sell, but wait and she will
restock.  She is not a mass producer and her attention to detail is
amazing.

Miniatures can live outside a dollhouse and can become
accessories in their own right.  I use them in little vignettes because
they always make me smile.  This is my first attempt to make a
miniature wing chair.  Lots of mistakes were made, but I still
have a soft spot for it.

And of course there are always tag and estate sales.  Sometimes you can
find very vintage pieces like these.

Have fun!

Big Reveal of the Texas Rosebud Miniature Townhouse

Hi y'all!  I sure did miss you last week.  I was very busy though working
on my Texas Rosebud Townhouse.  Lots of new things.  Want to take a
peek?

Let's start in the living room.  Several additions here.

There is a new window with handmade curtains made by me.  Behind the
cozy chair is a new bookcase.  I bought it unfinished.  I painted it and
lined the back of the unit with a mini rose bud print.  It is the Texas Rosebud
Townhouse so roses are everywhere!

Some of the books I purchased, like this new set of Anne of Green Gables
books, and some I made.  I was hard at work at our breakfast counter gluing
and decoupaging covers.  I get so involved in my work that I totally
forget the real world.

I tweaked the top of the mantel a bit and added some "family" photos.

Lots of fun going on in the kitchen too ….

I really went crazy in here.  I would wake up in the middle of the night with
an inspiration and could hardly wait to act on it.  Thankfully I am so lucky to
have such a loving and encouraging husband who doesn't think I am nuts!
Of course, maybe he does ~ I have not had the nerve to ask him.

I found this adorable clock on etsy.  I am going to go into detail about all
the things I purchased for the townhouse tomorrow.  I will be sure to tell
you all about Roxanne and her charming miniatures then.

I made a skirt for the kitchen sink.  Off to the right and next to the
cabinet is a little calendar I put created from this and that.

You can't see it very well in this pic, but I embroidered a little
felt rug for the area in front of the sink too.

I put in a door.  I need to create a little scene for the background.  Have
not decided just what I want yet, but it will come to me.  Oh and I made
the little curtain rod and the valance too.  But …. my favorite things are
the itty bitty aprons I made.  I had so much fun creating them.

I found a cute little unfinished peg rack to hang my aprons on.

The buttons are handmade out of polymer clay.  I designed them so that
they could be sewn on just like real ones would be.   I added the pocket
so that the cook could keep her wooden spoon at the ready.  Something
always needs stirring in the kitchen :-)

So there you have it ~ the big reveal.   I get so involved that I forget to eat!
Hmm …. dollhouses keep you slim.  I wonder if I lost any weight last
week?  Seems like my clothes are looser.

Time to get a sandwich and make a cup of tea.  So glad to be back
visiting with y'all.  Hope you will stop by again tomorrow when I give
you some dollhouse resources and tips.  Until then ….

Bentley ~ you know what this dollhouse needs that it doesn't
have?  A dog!  Every house needs a dog!  I thought you
would agree with me :-)

Decorating in the Miniature Kitchen

In between loads of laundry and general clean up around the full size
house ~ I just couldn't help but fuss around a bit with the mini house.
Yesterday this cute little shelf arrived for above the kitchen sink.  I
just hung it on the wall this morning and could not wait to show you
how cute it is!

I have more plans for the mini house.  I'll have some time this weekend to
make a skirt for the sink.  David is in a golf tournament all weekend so
Bentley and I will be hanging out together playing with minis.

It's so much more fun to decorate in miniature :-)

Baking going on here in the mini kitchen too.  Do you think I will ever
grow up???  I certainly hope not!

Happy Friday y'all.
