After months of political campaigning, I am really tired of listening to
political debates, analyzing the vote, etc, etc, etc. So let's have a bit of
decorating fun and vote for ideas, inspiration and fun!
First of all ~ none of these pics are ones of rooms in my house. All of
these come from my Pinterest boards, so you will not offend me with any
of your comments.
Let's go. This first pic above is one of a monochromatic room. White walls,
white furniture. What do you like about it? Is it restful and quiet or does
all of the white seem a bit icy to you?
Lots of color in this room. The dominant blue and white scheme is warmed
by the pops of red. Do you like it? I will say, that I love the coffered ceiling.
Lots of pop in this room with all of the pattern. Like it? Do you like
the mix of check and toile? Or is it overload for your senses?
Are you a romantic?
Or do you like an eclectic farmhouse fresh look?
Where do you get many of your design ideas? Are you more influenced by
magazines? Or do you often look to the movies for inspiration?
Are you a slave to decorating trends or are you free spirited and blaze
your own trail?
I hope that this was fun for you. With all of the sadness, frustration
and economic woes of today, it's my goal to provide you with a
fun and happy place to land from time to time.
No parties today Bentley ~ just fun! Maybe we should do a
tin can cottage love post next.
Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

Susan,
ReplyDeleteElection day could not come quickly enough for me! I was sick of all the negativness that goes with it all! Now, on to the pretty post. I love the red room and the farmhouse. Probably a mix for me would be just perfect!
xoxo
Me
Bentley, it cold here today. Brrrrrr
I like the mix idea too. In fact, I like each room to be unique so that I get a bit of what I love in each room. But of course, you know that in my heart I live in old movies and television shows, so I would really like to live in the Christmas in Connecticut house on the weekend and maybe have an apartment like Ann Marie's for the week ;)

I am a romantic, and I love the farmhouse look. Love the all white look..not icy at all to me, it just looks clean! Clean is my favorite look. :) I do love the room mixing patterns too. I get most of my ideas from other bloggers--I also love decorating magazines--where I usually see all the bloggers I already follow :) So glad the elections are over too--brings out the worst in everyone (especially me).
ReplyDeleteI so agree. I am continually amazed at the talent of bloggers. So creative and inventive. A treasure trove of inspiration everywhere! Magazine industry take note.

I am definately an eclectic type- always have been. I've never gone with a trend and probably never will. I do like all the rooms you posted and would take certain elements from each to make a room in my own home plus I have some sentimental pieces I always use, cause I just love them and the memories they evoke..
ReplyDeleteI agree- no more negative~! Positive and forward thoughts only for me. Its been said and has been proven, we receive what we send out into the universe, so I suggest loving, smiling, kindness and gratitude.
my pom girls are winking and swishing their tails at Bentley.. saying good morning the best they can..
xoxo

A girl with an independent spirit ~ that's what I admire. Decorating is and should be personal. As long as you love it, that's what really counts. Bentley says woof to your girls!

I like this sort of voting! I really like the white but I couldn't live in it, I need more color. However, the dominant blue is not for me, it makes me feel sad (how crazy is that?!). I like the Country Living selection but the one I love best is the last picture, such a cozy little spot ... in fact I like it so much, I'm going over there now to visit. I'm selecting the button now - VOTE!
ReplyDeleteThe cozy corner of that little camper is sooo cute. It would be very hard to ever feel sad in such a happy and fun spot! And, colors do effect one's emotions it's be proven to be true so you are not crazy at all.
DeleteSusan
I love the farmhouse look. Not for all white. The last picture looks like it is in a little camper. Love the coziness in that one.
ReplyDeleteGood bye election. Glad we have four years to recover from all of it.
One of the things I love the most about the first pic is how welcoming the room is as if to say "sit down, let me get you a glass of iced tea and I'll bring you a plate of cookies fresh out of the oven." I am happy the election is over too.

I love the look of the all white room. However, it wouldn't stay that way for long on my house...I love color! My family room is more like the one with the red and I love it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think it would be nice to have just one little room that was all in white for the serenity it gives off.
DeleteSusan
Farmhouse look but I enjoy elements of all of these images.
ReplyDeleteMe too. There is a little bit of "something" I like in each.
DeleteSusan
Love the red checks and toile, also the romantic. As much as I like the romantic, I can't see us living in an all white home. It's just not us. Besides, Bella is black and white and she sheds really bad, so we would always have a black and white room anyway.

I always consider the pets. That's why I like to slipcover everything. Bentley gets to sit anywhere he wants. I am a tad indulgent ;)

Great post ! I am the free spirited type , I go with what makes me happy and I was raised on a farm so that has always inspired me , farm house and the country side is what I like to bring in to my decorating ideas . I like to mix it up ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteYou are a lucky girl! Farm life and the freedom to be out in nature seems like the perfect setting for childhood.

I love to collect pictures of rooms. They are so inspiring and give me ideas when I want to make a change around the house. I love Ethan Allen decor and I drool over that all the time. I like all the colors in the pictures because the rooms are so nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young girl I grew up in a very big house. There were just the three of us, Mom, Daddy and me and our little scotty dog Bonnie. We had a few extra bedrooms and my mom decorated one of them as an upstairs den. She used all Ethan Allen furniture. I loved that room. It was the coziest room in the house and I spent as much time there as possible. That started my Ethan Allen furniture catalog collection. I would save some catalogs intact and others I would cut up for my decorating scrapbook. I think my passion for decorating started just a couple days after I was born ;)

Susan ~ I march to the beat of my own drum. I love the farmhouse, romantic, white, whatever strikes my fancy for that particular room in my home. I don't go with trends ~ I could care less about trends. I decorate my surroundings with the thins that we both love and things that are useful. If it's not loved and it's not useful ~ bye bye it goes. I get my inspiration from so many talented bloggers out there ~ including you~!
ReplyDeleteHve a wonderful day ;-)
Just another reason why I am so fond of you Marianne! We are on the same page about so many things!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
I have to say that I'm so eclectic that I like some elements from each picture! And, overload isn't a word in my vocabulary. I prefer to use the term "elegant clutter"! Keep blogging!
ReplyDeleteHelene
Between you and me Helene ~ there is lots of "elegant clutter" in my house lol!!
DeleteSusan
I love the farmhouse look and the first photo. I am not a big color person, although I do like blue. What does Bentley say?
ReplyDelete:)
Bentley is a typical male. He is not too interested in your decorating style, but he would like to give you a big kiss!

This is a fun topic and a refreshing break from the election. I find that I have "evolved" over time . . . from "Country" decor decades ago, to the Victorian decor and, for quite some time now, the "cottage" decor and I prefer the first photo. I am "flirting" with the "farmhouse" decor, but find it a bit stark for my taste. I do tend toward a "warm white" background, using color in the more-easily-changed items. Mine is a 40s cottage/bungalow house, so I tend to play up the 40s era in my decor. I enjoy replicating the 40s style because it "frees" me from following "fads" (don't need ss appliances, for example). Perhaps sadly, since we are a paper manufacturing community, I find that the Internet is now more often my inspiration than magazines, although I still subscribe to many. Here's a new question for a future post, Susan . . . should interior decorating always reflect the age and exterior/interior style of ones home?
ReplyDeleteI ADORE movies from the 1940's! When I first moved into our cottage,
ReplyDeleteI ordered organza Pricilla curtains for every room in my house because I wanted every window to look like it came out of a 1940's movie. One of my very favorite movies is Christmas in Connecticut. Love everything about it. However, I am also fickle and would love nothing better to have a mid century modern style home with Frank Sinatra music piped into every room. When I walk into my cottage and shut the door, I have entered into my own little castle styled to suit my fantasy world. Always stay true to yourself.
Susan
I love it all, Susan, but feel more at home among color. Love the reds in the third from top down. Don't really follow fads, and tend to be a bit of a rebel there such as not giving in to stainless steel because it's on every HGTV show (teehee). I get inspired from blogs, TV, and movies, but really whatever says comfort to me. The older I get the more I like uncluttered and simple, with pops of white but not all white because my creative soul would be too sad.
ReplyDeleteI so appreciate your upbeat page in the midst of way too many woes. Always fun stopping by.
XOXO's,
Marcia
What a fun post. Here's my vote. I adore Monochromatic rooms with a pop of a single color (swooning over your first photo). I'd say I was a eclectic farmhouse sort of girl that looks mostly to magazine/blogs for inspiration and I like to blaze my own trail with most things but I do like to add things that I think are already perfect with no need for change.
