Sorry, But I Just Couldn't Help Myself

For quite a while now I have been showing a plain white background on
this blog because that has been the "new wave" for some time.  I looked
at my blog today and thought ....

I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

I longed for the calico background I have used in the past.  It's cozy, it's
so me,  I need it to stay happy.

That's probably a bit extreme, I mean, I could live without it, but I
don't want to.

I realize I am completely out of touch with 2017, but that's okay
with me.  I am this blog's author, stylist, photographer and all things
blog like.  No one is holding my feet to the fire to be current and trendy.

I am such a rebel aren't I???

Make Way For Bunnies and Chicks

I have been collecting Easter things to decorate the dollhouse.

Lots of bunnies and cookies and flowers and a cake.

There's Mrs. Rabbit and her bunnies.

I have the Easter decorations all stored in this little weathered hutch.

This cute little chick is keeping watch.  I love her sweet little bonnet.

There is a tiny bit of sun peeking through the clouds today.  It has rained
and rained and rained here.  At one point I thought I would have to order
a rubber raft.  It looked like our back yard was surrounded by a moat.
Bentley does not like rain, so I went out with him several times a day
covering him with my umbrella.  Poor little guy did not have much
privacy.  The rain finally stopped last evening and we were able to
go for a nice long walk after dinner while it was still light.

I am working on several spring time projects right now and
getting ready for Katie's Spring Home Tour.

This tour will be so much fun!  I will keep you updated.  In the
meantime, have a wonderful Monday!

A Romantic Breakfast Tray

It has begun to feel like spring in South Texas.  This past winter was a
bit colder than last and we did have one freeze that nipped many of our
tropicals.   Now everything seems to be coming back to life.  The signs of
new life in my garden has prompted me to think of all things spring,
shoes and clothing, porch cushions and table settings too.

I was in Hobby Lobby last Saturday and found these sweet little plates.
There were only two of them at $1.99 each and then 40% off making
them $1.19 each.  They are so adorable with their striped bands and I
could not pass them up.

It's gray and cloudy out today and the air is saturated with moisture.
I will be staying inside and poofing the pillows.  I hope you have a
lovely day too.

A Mystical, Cosmic Story From My Kitchen

Well, I meant to get this post written much earlier today, but things just
seemed to get in the way.  It's noon so now I better say ~ good afternoon!

If you look out the window over my kitchen sink, you can see the dark
gray trunk and some of the huge limbs of our pecan tree.  I can see the
side street from this window too.  Our house is a big U shape and the
family room, the breakfast room, the guest bedroom and the master
bedroom all look out to the backyard.  The dining room looks out to
the side street,  the living room looks out to both the side street and
the front yard along with the foyer and my office (studio).  The guest
room has four big windows and French doors too.  That room looks
out to the front yard, the other side yard and the backyard.  I have now
filled you in and have probably either bored or confused you :-)

The other thing that is unique about this house is that the U shape is angled
a bit at both sides.  For example, if you imagine yourself standing at the
kitchen sink, looking out the window and then look towards the stove,
you will discover that the wall where the range top and double ovens are
is actually angled outwards from the center of the room.  This makes the
area in the kitchen quite a bit larger.  This house was built back in
1948 and I think that the owner was enchanted with two kinds of
architectural styles, southern colonial and Cliff May's ranch style
homes in California.

This is where things get really strange.  When we were living back in
Boise, Idaho, we were looking for another house.  I am a student of
residential architecture, and love two types of style.  I love the
rambling midcentury modern ranch houses of Cliff May, but I have
also always loved traditional colonial homes.  You can find that combination
in some areas of Southern California, but Boise didn't have any.  I thought
we would have to buy a lot and build what I wanted.   When we found
out that we were going to move back to Texas,  I started looking online
before we came down for a visit.  This house was on the market and
it was well within our price range.

From the photos on the real estate site, I could see that the house had
the very elements and style I was looking for.  When we arrived for a
visit and had our realtor show us the house, I realized it was even
better than the photos conveyed.

Here is when the story gets even more interesting.  The owners of the house
were the son and daughter-in-law of it's original designer and owner.  The
house had remained in the same family from 1948 to 2013.  The son and
daughter-in-law loved this home, but the son's mother was elderly and
becoming frail and they decided that perhaps it was time for them to
move in together and considered building a new home to meet her needs.
They had the house on the market for a while and then pulled it back
off for several months.

The owners were so undecided about whether to put the house back
on the market or not, and so they prayed about it with their fellow
Bible study classmates.  The conclusion they all reached was to go ahead
and list it once again.  This decision occurred at about the same time
we decided to move back to Texas.

I didn't learn about this story until a month after we moved into this
house.  We were at a party at our friend's house and were introduced to
a lovely woman and her husband.  This woman was so pleased to meet
us and she was anxious to look us over because she was in the Bible
study class.  She said that they all prayed together and the message
they received was clear that the house should be sold.

It seems that we were always meant to live here.

This is not the first time this sort of mystical, cosmic experience has
happened to us.  It has happened before.  The first time it happened
everyone involved was astonished.  Y'all will have to wait for another
time to hear that story because Bentley is anxious for me to take him
for a walk and is not taking no for an answer!

New iMac and Some Changes

There are a couple of new things happening around the cottage.  First of
all, as you may notice, I removed the chintz slip covers from the chairs
and ottoman in the area we lovingly call, our library.  They needed to be
laundered and when I pulled them off I thought to myself, why not keep
them off?  I put the slipcovers on when we first moved in primarily
because of Bentley since he is not fond of leather.

As you can see in this photo, the slips give the room a different look.
I like them both ways, and since I am keeping the slipcovers I can always
change the look whenever I want.  I have to put a fleece blanket down
on the chair to the right when Bentley decides he needs to nap there.
You can see him napping in the first photo.

The other new thing around here is my new 27" iMac.  I am am
trying to figure out all the new features.  My old iMac died and I
purchased this new one last week in San Antonio.  The photo
features are quite different and I am getting stuck on exporting
the photos to make them usable on my blog.  Y'all will just
have to bear with me during this learning curve.  I think I
will go make myself a cup of chamomile tea so I stay calm and
don't blow a fuse!  If all goes well, I will be back here tomorrow
with more news.
