Help! I am Granny Square Challenged!!

Every time I visit Helen Philipps I am swooning for hours.  Here is a sample
of some of her work.  She is so talented.  Her blog posts are always full
of happy colors, beautiful images, creative crafts and crochet inspirations.
If you have never visited her and you like what you see here ~ then
rush right over to her place now.

The granny squares ~ oh how I love these colorful granny squares!!!

She does everything ~ and so beautifully too.  Crochet, quilts and
other crafts.   It's probably good for her that she lives so far away from
me because I would be knocking on her cottage door in England
asking for help because ….

I am granny square challenged!!! :-(

A couple of years ago I tried my hand at making a granny square.  One
afternoon I watched some YouTube tutorials and I tried and tried, but
mine never ended up looking like the ones the instructor made.  Then life
took over and my busy schedule just didn't allow for making granny
squares.

But I am determined!  I am digging out my crochet hooks and yarn and
staying positive and giving it another go.

Helen ~ if you should read this, I would love, love, love a video
tutorial from you.  Hint, hint, hint :-)

In the meantime, just look at some of these adorable crafts from this
talented girl across the pond ….

Sunshine on a cloudy day!

Speaking of rain ~ we are expecting 3 to 5 inches of rain.  Time for
me to get out that crochet hook and give the granny square another go.

Happy Sunday y'all!

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  1. You're ahead of me. I can't even crochet. I fully agree. That woman is a bountiful fount of knowledge and she knows how to use color expertly. Her blog is a joy.

  2. I crocheted each of my 2 boys a baby blanket using a couple very basic stitches, but that is about the extent of it. It is a very relaxing thing to do I seem to remember. Perhaps I will give it a go again sometime.

  3. I adore Helen's blog. Always so fun and cheerful. I do love Granny Squares. Great way to use up your stash. I'm still working on putting one together. I have all the squares made ... just need to sew them together.

  4. Helen does beautiful work. I love her bunnies. Yes you should give it another try. I did the same thing. Started practicing years ago then life took its twist and turns and I never got back to it. I always think everyone else's work looks so much better than mine so I give up. Stay busy on your rainy day. We have had weeks of snow and I'm so ready for spring.

  5. I'm all thumbs myself when it comes to crocheting! My 18 yo daughter is a whiz at it, though! Good luck!

  7. Brenda, I just completed a granny square blanket. Mother had just taught me the granny square just shortly before she passed away. I did not have the heart to continue. However, several months ago I started and completed my blanket. (All 584 squares!). Included in the blanket is one bright red square mother had crocheted with her little arthritis ridden hands which I had found in one of her sewing baskets. It was the exact square she was teaching me with!....I believe mama is still watching over all I do. Good luck with your endeavor. Girl, you can do it.

  9. Keep at it, you'll get it. I thought the same thing about knitting.

  10. I love all the pastel colors blended together. And the bunnies are so cute. My Mom made granny squares, but hers were gray and brown and maybe orange. Didn't do a thing for me. One of my Aunts knit and crocheted clothes for Barbie dolls. Tiny little sweaters and dresses, hats, and even a little bitty purse.
