My Birthday Without A Mom

They say that the first year without a loved one is a year of firsts.
Today is my birthday.  The first one I celebrate without my Mom or
my Daddy.  I am looking back with love and looking forward with
love too.  I was so lucky to have such loving parents.

I have shed a few tears but I am smiling too.  I am remembering fun
birthdays of the past and looking forward to fun ones in the future too.

A birthday is just a personal day.  One that should be spent doing
exactly what you love.  To me it's not about presents or cake but about
reflection and excitement of a new year to come.  While David is at
the office today, I will spend it watching some of my favorite old movies
and working on my dollhouse.  For me it will be the perfect way to
celebrate the past and look forward to another happy year of life.
Of course my darling Bentley will be right next to me every step of
the way.  Life is good.

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

    1. It is hard, but I keep reminding myself that Mom and Daddy are in heaven with all the rest of our family who have crossed over and that makes me happy.

  3. Happy Birthday, Susan. Yes, it will be a year of first for you and I, who have so recently lost our mothers. My mom's birthday is the last day of this month. It will be a tough one. You are doing just what you should do, taking care of yourself, nurturing yourself. Have a wonderful day.

  4. My mothers was on the 2nd of this month, I just celebrated mine 3 days ago & my dad's was on the 20th. He loved to tell us each year that this was the day that man walked on the moon. He loved making those significant connections. He passed on Elvis's birthday. I am sure he smiled at that one! Happy, happy birthday to you Susan. Cherish your happy memories.

    1. You and I have a lot in common. Belated happy Birthday to you. Yours is on the 15th ~ right? July is a big birthday month for our family too. I have a brother-in-law on the 4th, my Aunt Susan is on the 13th, my hubby's is on the 16th, my sister-in-law Cindy's is on the 22nd and my nephew is on the 31st. We both should have one big month long party!

    2. Amen to that! And yes, the 15th is mine. Smack dab in the middle. I am taking a ferry to Orcas Island this evening. It is my birthday present from my youngest son. Saturday we are going over to San Juan Island for a lavender festival. I can't wait to sample some lavender goodies!

  5. First, let me wish you a happy birthday. Second, I can only imagine your loss, being the 1st b'day without both of your parents. I still have mine but know that time is short for us and don't know how much longer I will have them in my life. I can't even imagine that day...

    1. Treasure each moment you have with your parents and all of your loved ones. It all goes by too fast. And make each day of your life full of joy no matter what.

    1. Thank you Shelia. You gave me a wonderful giggle yesterday when you told the story of your granddaughter's reaction to your varicose veins. Out of the mouths of babes! Absolutely adorable little girl.

    1. I know that your parents are watching over you just as I believe mine are. I just read a quote (can't remember the author)

    1. I am surprised at how well I am doing. At first I felt like I could not breathe. Time doesn't totally heal the wound but it does make it less painful. Thanks for the hugs my friend!

  16. Happy belated birthday, Susan! Yes, a bittersweet one, perhaps, this year, without your beloved mother, but as you say, you have many things to look forward to, and most of them, are what you enjoy doing every day. All the very best!
