Shopping the Cottage for Mom's Room

Those of you who follow me know that my Mom passed away last month
and that I have been planning a big renewal of her bedroom in her
memory.  In preparation of doing that, I have been going through her
things and choosing ones that had special meaning to her.  I will be
tweaking these things a bit to give them a fresher and newer look
while maintaining their integrity.  This item was one of her favorites.

Mom picked up this night stand at a consignment shop.  While I like the
lines of the piece, I think it really needs a facelift.  Mom thought so too
and it was one of the things we discussed doing so I know she would
not mind me shaking it up a bit.

Here is another piece she loved.  This little occasional table has a marble top
and I also think it has real potential.  I have some ideas ...

More ideas for these two matching pieces.

Mom had two of these matching prints.  I will be using these for sure.

I repainted this chair for Mom a few years ago.  It used to have a brownish
pickled finish, but we both liked it so much better after I painted it an
off white.  I am recovering the seat with this fabric.  You may recall that
the other day I showed you a little foot stool I painted and recovered with this
same fabric.  No wonder it looks familiar to you.

This lamp ... well more ideas.  I especially want to do some tweaking to
that shade.

Oh and I have some ideas for this base too.

And another piece.  Mom had a real love for columns.  Maybe she lived
in Rome in another lifetime ;-)  All joking aside, this column will be used
too.

So while I am finishing some of the tweaking in my studio, and
deciding on a paint color for it's walls, I will be busy shopping around
my cottage for just the right elements for Mom's room.  Stay tuned for
more updates and have a great weekend!

New French Pillow and A Lamp for the Mini Cottage

Okay, I will admit it, I am a miniholic.  I just can't seem to help myself.
I spot something that I think would look great in "Texas Rosebud Cottage"
and the next thing you know it arrives in a little package at my front door.
This is the latest addition.  It is a little pillow that has a French soap label
printed on it.

The minute I saw it I was swooning.  I just knew that it would be perfect
in the Bar Harbor rocker.  And it is!  I don't think it could be any cuter.

And then ~ be still my heart, there is the new hobnail lamp for next to
the "reading" chair.  Don't you just want to shrink yourself down,
pour yourself a cup of tea and cozy up with that copy of
Black Beauty?  I sure do!  Unless I discover Alice's magic elixir,
I will just have to be content knowing that late at night when everyone
in our house is sound asleep, the little fairies are enjoying themselves
in the furniture that will one day move into the Texas Rosebud Cottage.
No Judy, the cottage is not built yet ;-)

A Cottage Bed and Tweaked Foot Stool

A couple of days ago I showed you the chair I painted white for my
studio.  Well my studio has a bed too.  I finally finished painting the bed
which was my intention all along.

The bed and chair used to look like this.

But everything looks so much brighter and happier now.

I still have to paint the walls and have not decided on the color yet.  They
are currently beige.  The color choices are a soft sage green, an off white
or perhaps a pale blue.  All of these colors are in the room in some fashion
right now as well as pink and spots of yellow.  The room is an eclectic mix
of vintage, garage sale and old family treasures.

This little stool belonged to my grandmother.  I painted it white and
covered it in some fabric that I plan to use in Mom's bedroom when I
start working in there.

But for now, I want to get this room finished before I move on to the big
project in her room.  And what is Bentley doing while all of this is
going on ~ well napping of course!

Jellies

Do jou remember "jellies"?  I remember having a pair of pink ones.
I loved them at the time and thought they were fun.  It's one of those
fashion trends that went away (some say thankfully) but now it
seems ...

they're back!

It's the JR Jelly collection from Jack Rogers!  At $68 they are a bit pricey
for flip flops, but not your typical flip flop ~ they are super cute!

Actually it's not the first time that jellies have returned.  Tory Burch brought
them back with her ballerina flat jelly ...

also cute

But I am thinking that I like the Navajo JR Jelly in turquoise
of course!  Fun for the beach that's for sure.  When summer does
arrive.  Notice I'm not saying "if" I am saying "when".

Tweaking in My Studio

Over the weekend I decided to paint this chair.  It is something I have wanted
to do since I set up my studio in our new house.  It rained all weekend and
so I got out the paint, brush and popped in season one of the Mary Tyler Moore
show into my Mac and painted away.  Painting furniture and watching and
listening to funny old TV sitcoms is the most wonderful kind of therapy.
I highly recommend it!

This is the way the chair looked before.  I aways loved the lines of it and while
it was previously used in a study, the color was too dark for my shabby cottage
style studio.  Its a comfy place to read a book or to browse through magazines.
However ...

It is also the place where Bentley likes to curl up and take a nap while I am
on my computer, or sewing or painting.  In fact, I had a hard time taking the
picture of the chair without him in it.  He is giving me the "I'm a bit
annoyed with you right now look".  He is very territorial and this is
"his" chair after all ;-)

Okay Bentley ~ it's safe to resume your morning nap now.
