Over the weekend I decided to paint this chair. It is something I have wanted
to do since I set up my studio in our new house. It rained all weekend and
so I got out the paint, brush and popped in season one of the Mary Tyler Moore
show into my Mac and painted away. Painting furniture and watching and
listening to funny old TV sitcoms is the most wonderful kind of therapy.
I highly recommend it!
This is the way the chair looked before. I aways loved the lines of it and while
it was previously used in a study, the color was too dark for my shabby cottage
style studio. Its a comfy place to read a book or to browse through magazines.
However ...
It is also the place where Bentley likes to curl up and take a nap while I am
on my computer, or sewing or painting. In fact, I had a hard time taking the
picture of the chair without him in it. He is giving me the "I'm a bit
annoyed with you right now look". He is very territorial and this is
"his" chair after all ;-)
Okay Bentley ~ it's safe to resume your morning nap now.
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
It looks great and I think that Bentley definitely deserves it! He looks so cute cuddled up in it.
ReplyDeleteAw! It's so nice seeing Bentley's sweet little face. He's so adorable! It does my heart good to see him.
ReplyDeleteI love how you made over your chair. The fabric really pops against the white! I love the needlepoint pillow, too. It is the perfect spot for Bentley to be with you while you work/play. Bonnie used to sit on an ottoman while I painted in the studio. I miss her so much!
Your studio is so nice!

Love it Susan. Laughter is definitely one of the best therapies, and it's free. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteLove the white, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so pretty. I thought at first that you had changed the fabric. What a difference the paint makes.
ReplyDeleteThe white is perfect for it. And yes, the fabric is a standout now. I can just envision you trying to paint the chair with Bentley on it! Glad to hear you're doing things for yourself.
ReplyDeleteSusan ~ your chair looks absolutely beautiful. I love it painted. Bentley, you must be just a little bit patient with mommy. She made YOUR chair look wonderful. Please resume your nappy ~ ;-)

I love what you did to the chair. Amazing how some paint can completely renew a piece of furniture!

Dear Bentley you are so darn cute I had to chuckle at this post ...you stole the show from Mom and her paint, that is for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteKudos to you, Susan! Your armchair shines now, softly and subtly, but feels bright and is definitely beautiful!

You did a beautiful job on the chair! What a good feeling to have it DONE! The white fits the feminine lines so well, and that cushion has got to be nice and plump or Bentley would be roosting elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteHugs right back at ya from Michigan!
Great chair
ReplyDeleteMerle.............
Hi Susan! Oh, what a difference a little paint made on your chair. It's beautiful. Even the fabric looks prettier. Now little Bentley looks adorable in her chair and don't you bother him anymore. :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia;)
It is like sunshine just hit the chair! So much prettier!

p.s. Bentley, tell your Momma I am watching season 3 of Mary and having a glass of wine. I wish you two were here!
Susan,
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation a coat of paint makes!!!
I adore the fabric, as well!!!
Bentley, like our late beloved Maurice, deserves a nice spot in your Studio!
Maurice took quite seriously her title of "Product Inspector"!
I once had a sign near my chair that read, "If you want the best seat in the house, move the cat."
Thank you for sharing the chair. . .are photos of the rest of your Studio forthcoming, dear one?
Fondly,
Pat

It turned out beautifully. I'm impressed with how you were able to get all of the upholstery out of your way.
