After Being Thrown Under the Bus

Since the passing of my Mom last year and my Aunt recently,
I have been giving a lot of thought to the nature of my soul.
The days and nights of this life pass by so quickly.  The
quality of this life is not so much dependent on what we have,
but rather what we do and how treat one another.

Soon it will be close to a year since someone tried to "throw us
under the bus".  I won't go into the details now because those
details are not pertinent to this discussion.  Let's just say that
someone made up a fantastical lie designed to damage our
lives financially and professionally for their own gain.

It was a terrible time.  I was mourning my Mom's loss and
then was stunned, saddened and hurt by this action of
another.   I struggled for months to control my outrage,
anger and hurt.

It took hours and hours of prayer and reflection.  I had help
from my dearest and closest friends who encouraged me and
helped me to remember that there are good folks in this world.

Eventually I started to grow a scab over the wound and the
healing process began.    At this point I had to put all my faith
and trust in Him.  I had to harden my mind to the rumors that
the one who tried to hurt us was in fact profiting and thriving
from these lies.

I waited patiently.  Not always easy but I kept hanging onto my
faith.  One day, the tide turned and the house of cards created by
this other person came tumbling down.  It was the perfect
example of karma.

Did I feel vindicated?  Yes, I did.  Am I pleased that this person
brought sorrow into their own home?  No, I am not.  I feel sad
that this person felt the need to use deceitful and cruel methods
to get ahead.  All actions have consequences and some folks
don't always realize that harmful actions towards others will
eventually come back to bite.

When you witness a family member take their last breath
right before your eyes as I did with my Mom, it helps you
to understand the precious gift of life.  Life is all too
brief, never quite long enough.  Each day we are gifted with this
life is another chance for us to be kind, to give joy and not
sorrow.  Life is not about how one can step on and over
someone else to get ahead.  When we endeavor to hurt
someone else, we not only risk the consequences of karma,
but we also risk bruising our souls.

I look after my soul by endeavoring to be kind, to be
generous and forgiving.  The love and tenderness we
spread comes back to us in waves of happiness and
a feeling of content that no amount of money can buy.

Spread joy, not sorrow.
Spread truth, not lies.
Spread compassion, not hatred.
Spread wealth, not greed.
Spread laughter, not tears.

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  2. Susan, what a shame you had to go through this unthinkable unkindness at a time when you were so vulnerable. It would never be easy but certainly not when you experienced it. You have such a strong and good spirit and being able to put it behind you and carry on your beautiful life is worthy of such credit to you and the loved ones that support you. Hugs to Bentley. xo Judy

  5. Well said, dear Susan! God will not be mocked. We reap what we sow. Scary, huh? lol But then there's His mercy to cushion the blow. I pray your nemesis reaches out to God and then asks your forgiveness.

Take care, dear one, and have a peaceful and relaxing week.

  6. Dear Susan, It's very hard to understand why others hurt us and even more difficult to forgive them and try to move on. The thoughts of what they have done will always be inside your head. It's wonderful that you have kept your faith and have expressed it so beautifully. May your faith sustain you and give you peace.

    hugs

  8. Dearest Susan, so beautifully said. You seem to have such a sweet heart, I'm so sorry it was wounded so terribly. You did the right thing when you put your faith and trust in Him. Don't let one rotten apple spoil the whole basket. I know that's a very old saying but it's oh so true. God is good, everything is going to be okay!

  10. Great post! I firmly believe each of us does reap what we sow. (Or, karma.) We never wish that bad things befall others, but, again, we do reap what we sow. If we don't want the bad in our lives, we should never inflict it upon others. There is enough sadness and illness that can happen all on its own, we should never ever be contributors. You handled things so graciously, which can be incredibly difficult.
I truly hope that dentist also will reap what he did sow.
