Wild West Barn Chick

Howdy Barn Chicks! Welcome to the wild, wild west and the beautiful mountains of Idaho!! Grab yourself a saddle ...

Or a cowgirl hat and an apron ...

Rustle up a cow ...

Or a cowboy ...

and find that missing calf hiding behind the ponderosa pine.

When you are finished with your chores, head back east to visit Karen at Brayton Homestead Interiors for the 4th meeting of the Barn Chicks.

Bentley, stop barking at the calf. She'll never come out from hiding!!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Barn Chick Friday!

Howdy all you barn chicks! Come onto my back porch. Grab a sunflower to put in your hair and an apple to snack on. Let's go visit my neighbor's chickens. Amy doesn't have a barn, but she has a coop.

We'll just go in through the back gate to visit the "girls". Don't worry, they won't peck you. They are sweet girls who love to have visitors.

There is Aretha and Beatrice and I can't remember the name of Aretha's twin. Notice the oars on the other side of the fence. The girls "Dad" Billy is an expert kayaker!

Here is Thelma. You all remember Thelma! She likes to hop the fence and come over to visit Bentley. Unfortunately, Bentley does not welcome her visits!!

Hi girls! Are you coming over to say hi??

Show us around your free range territory ...

You have lots of treats to snack on and you have ....

Your own drinking fountain too!!

These girls are so happy in their backyard!!

Bye girls! Thanks for a lovely visit!! Now the rest of you girls be sure to stop by and visit Barn Chick Karen at Brayton Homestead Interiors. Hopefully Hurricane Earl decides to leave her corner of Massachusetts alone. Please stop by and visit Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday too!

Hi Bentley. I just visited Thelma and I think she would love to visit with you again. Do you think that you could welcome her and not chase her??? Bentley??? He is ignoring me.

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Barn Chick in Training ~ or The Return of Thelma

Here I am in my red cowgirl boots. I am a "Barn Chick in Training". I am getting some real "hands on" experience today. My mission: Return Thelma to her coop next door.

Yes, that's right, Thelma and Bentley had another altercation on our front porch this morning. Apparently she has decided she would like to live permanently at Ash Tree Cottage. Bentley has said no!!

Now that Bentley is safe inside, or should I say that Thelma is safe from him, I will fulfill my mission. I have filled up a little bowl with pumpkin seeds. Since I am only a "Barn Chick in Training", I'm not sure if chickens eat pumpkin seeds or not, but it's all I have. Off I go on the hunt for Thelma who is somewhere in the garden ...

There she is ~ under the wisteria arbor. Hi Thelma! Look what I have for you!!

That's a good girl! Okay, I'm going to pick you up and put you back in your own garden! Okay gals, that's Lesson No. 1 in Barn Chick Training. Approach the chicken slowly, wearing red cowgirl boots and bearing gifts. Hey Karen, I hope that this qualifies me as a real "Barn Chick"!!

Okay Bentley ~ your cottage garden is all yours once again!

Love,
Susan and Bentley
