My Devonware Biscuit Barrel

I saw this Devonware Biscuit Barrel in one of my favorite antique
shops and was completely smitten.  I did not buy it that day, but
I simply could not forget it.   Has that ever happened to you?

Knowing all of you as I do, I guess the answer would be yes.
So I slept on it and thought about it some more and decided that
it would be quite happy living in my little cottage near to my sweet
little Sadler tea pot.

I mean how could I possibly pass up a darling little biscuit barrel like
this one with the adorable wicker handle???

So after a nice long chat with my dear friend Patsy, she wrapped it up for
me and home with me it went.  I think it's quite content on the tea table
don't you?

Bentley and I are joining ~

Bentley ~ would you like to go visit Patsy's sweet dog sometime?
He's a bit bigger than you, but I know you will have fun together.

Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  5. Very pretty! i love your little pink teacup and saucer too! i passed up a biscuit jar a little while back that i wish i would have gotten ... since i live in the middle of so many antique shops, i go shopping and see so many goodies i'd like to have, so i try to live by the rule of going home and "thinking" about it overnight and if i can't forget about it, then i go get it the next day and if i DO forget about it, then i mustn't have really wanted it in the first place! :) i don't think i would have forgotten about your biscuit barrel either ... yes, i would have had to go back for that as well!

  7. It is so beautiful! I love it! I know that feeling - I work in an antique shop and I always say to people who walk away from something they like "If you dream about it tonight you know you need it!". :) Thanks for sharing!

  10. I love it, Susan. It would have stayed on my mind, too. It reminds me of a biscuit barrel my grandmother had - also with a wicker handle - and I have no idea what happened to it!

  21. Oh my goodness. You could not leave that behind. It is GORGEOUS!!! I have always wanted and admired biscuit barrels but have never indulged. Where to go with them, ususally very expensive and so on. I am so glad you did it. It is gorgeous and you will have no regrets. The design is so charming and lovely and it has every color in it so no matter what other things you use, you can always have it there. Happy for you.

  26. The detailing is remarkable. I haven't ever heard of Devonware so of course I had to do a little research. Your container is approx 1880's! What a find. I would have back stepped also. Have a wonderful day!

  27. My family always jokes I am so much like my grandmother. Her tastes were way more expensive than what she could afford, and she liked a lot of things. I see things I want, but leave on the shelf all the time. Seems other people must have my tastes, since often times what I like is gone by the time I returned.

You were lucky this treasure was still there because the bucket is beautiful. I love the soft flower bouquet and the wicker handle makes it very unusual. The teacup and saucer are very sweet too. Thanks for sharing your things with us!
