Wild Alaskan Salmon Burgers

In my quest to be healthy, I try to include fish in my diet as often
I can.  This is always a bit of a challenge for me as my dear
hubby does not like fish.  What to do?  I  eat fish for lunch or on
the nights he now has golf league.

Here I am having a wild Alaska salmon burger on a bed of
mixed spring greens.  This version is high protein and low carb.

I am very fortunate that my local co-op just blocks from my home
sells these burgers in their butcher shop.   While I don't have their recipe,
I can tell you that from what I can taste and see, the burger is just
fresh salmon chunks with some scallions held together with an egg
I presume.  Fresh, simple and yummy because the full flavor of
the salmon comes through without a lot of bread crumbs.

When I figure out how to make these burgers taste just like
the co-op's I will let you know.

I added my own home made tartar sauce.  And here it is:

1/4 cup of mayo
good squeeze of fresh lemon juice
some pickle relish (your call on how much)
some capers (without their juice)
sprinkle of Kosher salt
freshly ground pepper

Now you can also add some grated lemon rind to
give the sauce a bit more lemon zing if you like.
I did not use all of the sauce on my burger as I try
to keep fats to a minimun, but we do have to enjoy life
too so I just use moderation.

Happily Joining ~

Bentley is busy cuddling with David and getting his
Sunday time with him.  We must adhere to Bentley's
routine you know ;-)

Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  1. I'm with your hubby!! I just don't like fish. Ever so often, I'll eat boiled shrimp but that's it. I'm going on an Alaskan cruise this summer and thought I might try some of the fresh fish. Here in Oklahoma, we don't have a lot of fresh fish. Plus, if I don't like it, I can order something else.

It looked good until you said it was fish. Sorry!

  3. I love Salmon patties if they don't have the full of bread flavor. The one you had looks yummy! I try to add fish into our meals at least once a week but sometimes it's hard to come up with new dishes that everyone likes. I have a couple of picky eaters.

  4. We fix wild salmon patties quite often! Like a crab cake with bread crumbs or sometimes crunched up crackers with an egg to hold it all together with celery and chopped onion. It DOES make a good light meal. Need to try your tartar sauce! Now you've made me hungry for one or two!! The power of suggestion!

  5. We love salmon burgers too. We don't have a nice co-op though to run into. We make burgers with ground chicken too and hubby loves them.

  8. You think it is just egg & scallions and a bit of bread crumbs...any other seasoning you could taste?

  10. I like a lot of different types of fish as does hubby, but as much as I like to cook, I'm pretty lousy at cooking fish! I am good at making crab cakes though, and I bet my method would make a salmon patty very much the same way. Since you think they add an egg, there definitely must be bread crumbs or in the case of my crab cakes, cracker crumbs. Just a touch to absorb some of the egg and hold it together. Hubby loves salmon so maybe I will make it this week. It looks delicious on the green salad! Thanks for the inspiration, Susan!

  14. The same here, DH does not like fish either but I like smoked salmon sandwiches for lunch and I have that often. Whenever we eat out I also always order fish, mostly salmon. Happy BM

  15. I like salmon, and fortunately for me, my husband FINALLY admits that he likes it too! I like to broil it with a small amount of Olive Oil, a swipe of spicy mustard and a drizzle of honey. I sure wish I had a store close by like yours; I'd love to try those salmon burgers. Thanks for playing Blue Monday.

    Happy Blue Monday, Susan.

    1. I am loving salmon lately, especially since I learned to bake it wrapped in parchment paper, in the oven. I put either grated ginger or pickled ginger and soy sauce over it and close up its little parchment paper package, and put it on a baking sheet. I am not sure how long I bake it. I take it out when it smells done. When it gets too hot to run the oven, I am going to see how it does in the microwave.

I had to laugh to myself when I read about Bentley's routines. Our little Fuzzy Pomeranian has certain routines at certain times, and demands that we adhere to them. His newest routine is demanding his late night snack of cottage cheese. I never had a dog that was so particular about routines at specific times before. I can't figure out how he tells time. Maybe next time I bake salmon in parchment paper, I should have Fuzzy keep track of how long it bakes!

  17. Oh, my. I have the same "dilemma" if you could call it that, hehe. So it ends up being lunch or dinner when I go out to eat. Hmm... The boyf's going away on the weekend soon - might take up the opportunity and go cook up a seafood storm! Muahaha.
