I'm Listening

I have questions, and you my dear readers have the answers I am longing to
hear.  I have been blogging since 2010.  My blog has changed since then, and
my life has changed too.  While I still enjoy decorating, it's not my only
interest in life, nor is it the only thing I want to see on other's blogs.

I tend to like to read chatty blogs.  I like writers who give the reader a more
intimate look at their lives.  My question to you is:

What do you want to see and read about when you visit me?
Do you enjoy the evolution of my potting shed, or are you getting
bored with it already?

Do you want more recipes?

What about book reviews?  I am on Goodreads.  I have slacked off a
bit in recent months, but I am back in full force now.

I have a minis blog, but it has been dormant.  I want to get back
to that.  Is that of interest to you?

More than anything, I want to be entertaining.  I want to be a
bright spot in your lives.  Think about these questions and please get
back to me.  I'm listening!

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

  1. I have enjoyed reading your blog for quite awhile. I don't even remember how I found you! I would love to see some recipes and book suggestions. I am not into miniatures. I also enjoy seeing posts about gardening and plants. Thank you so much for all of your hard work in putting together your posts. I appreciate it!

    1. Thank you for your thoughts! I will start adding more recipes. I have been neglectful about cooking lately, but that is about to change. Thank you so much for reading my blog!

  2. I have been feeling the same way and have cut way back on my blogging. I like different things from blogs. I read some blogs for information and others because I like to feel like I am visiting with friends. I am not into miniatures. xo Laura

  4. Most blogs I signed up for include decorating, recipes, crafts of all kinds but especially quilting, cross stitch, crochet and hand embroidery. I usually don't read blogs/reviews about reading because I like cozy books, especially mystery books. I don't like in depth gore or vulgarity. Very hard to find. I enjoyed "The Cat Who" series by Lillian Jackson Braun. I tried another cozy book but it read like a teenager wrote it, while not vulgar the author must have wrote "he's hot" 50 times. No more of her books, can't remember her name but I'd recognize it if I heard it. So most reviews of books don't interest me although I read somewhere about "The Cat Who" series. I have a lot of unread Agatha Christie mysteries to read. Write about what you're interested in and I think anyone can skim through and see if that day's contents is of interest to them, then read or skip. That's what I tend to do. Have a blessed Sunday

  6. Hi Susan, I love your blog and love to hear about your day to day with your hubs and of course Bentley. I like chatty blogs about home and gardening. Your blog is my favorite so far so I hope you don't change it up too much. I feel I know you although we have never met in person. I like miniatures but haven't done it in years. I built a dollhouse in the 90's and built all the furniture from kits to furnish it but sold the dollhouse and kept the furniture to display in a cabinet but they are still packed up from a couple moves. Thanks for your interesting blog. I do love it. ~carol

  7. I so enjoy reading your blog and have for quite awhile. The miniatures are adorable but I don’t collect them. Any recipes are always fun and enjoyable. Perhaps recipes for smaller families or just couples would be something different than I see on other blogs and certainly something I would use. I love your home so decorating ideas would be very interesting. I love the all white look that so many blogs are showing but not something I can use in my home. Your warm color scheme fits my home. I believe I live in your same town so your gardening and plant ideas for this hot climate would also be appreciated. I also enjoy your travel plans and how you decide what to take. I would love tutorials on coordinating clothes for trips. But most of all keep sharing your life and Bentley with us. You make us feel so welcome. .

    1. I love this idea of coordinating clothes for trips! I will start doing that!! Dinners for two, or a small family is a great idea too. There is just my hubby and myself, and I am not all that crazy about left overs, so I will be happy to share what I have learned. I am glad that you feel welcome, because you most certainly are!

  8. I think I know more what I don't like. I've unfollowed a lot of blogs lately. I don't like waste or conspicuous consumption. I've quit following bloggers who change their complete decor every 6 months. I can't relate to that at all. I'm so bored with blogs that post 10 photos of a single design element. It makes me want to pull my hair out. I enjoy your brevity. You get to the point. I love the Fabulous Antique Dog Finds post for example and apprecite that you haven't painted every piece of furniture in your house white! That just bores me to tears. I'm not into religion and have unfollowed a lot of blogger lately who talk about something religious in every post. Thanks for asking!

    1. Ha, ha ~ I so understand the boredom of the constantly redecorating blogs. As an interior designer, I know full well that styles change frequently to get us to spend money. I may move things around just a bit sometimes, but basically it's the same furniture and accessories. I am comfortable with color and my own sense of style and don't feel like I need to follow each trend that comes along! I'm not an all white kind of girl, nor do I like the industrial look. I love the British country house look because it always looks well worn, lived in, and enjoyed by everyone. That's just me.

  9. I do dollhouses and miniatures so am always interested in your beautiful ones. I mostly read cozy mysteries so I am no so interested in book reviews. I would love more recipes! I am also interested in decorating and don't mind chatty blogs.

  10. I love blogs about decorating but it would be fun to see some about your everyday life, like routines, cleaning schedule, laundry and other tips, ect, and collections, wardrobe and purses, shoes. I'm just a home loving kind of personi guess!

  11. I love your blog Susan and hope you'll keep blogging just the way you do. I found you because I'm new to the miniatures world and working on my first dollhouse. One of my kids is named Bentley, and I don't see his name often! My decor doesn't change as we've found our style (English Country Cottage) and I sometimes feel stressed that I'm not following the trends that so many bloggers follow. I just skip past those posts if they don't interested me. But your posts I always read and so enjoy. A real blogger writing about real life!! Hope this helps a bit! X Chy

    1. Thank you for your input, and for your kind words. Please don't ever feel stressed about not following trends. If it's a trend you love, then go for it, but never redecorated your nest to please others. Trends come and go so fast, and often a trend that is beloved at the moment, is suddenly yesterday's news and everyone wants it gone. It's your nest, your haven and sanctuary from our crazy world. Suit yourself and you will always be happy! PS: Bentley is my cousin's middle name and he thinks I named my dog after him :-)

    2. I so agree Susan. Even when we were building this house, our builder and his team were not sure our "style" was going to come together but after we moved in, it then made sense to all of them! At the end of the day, we're the ones who have to live here and it's our taste that is the important factor. P.S. Love your cousin's thought!!

  12. It sounds to me that you cover everything that everyone likes--one at a time. I love your blog and have for years. I am the world's worst cook and don't like to cook and don't want to learn, so recipes are lost on me. I am an avid reader, but can't afford books, so I read anything that falls into my hands (except romances--don't like them). I always wanted to have a doll house and do miniatures, but I live in 700 square feet with 5 people so I love that your miniatures don't have to be in a doll house--they can be on a window sill or shelf or in a box. Love it. Your home is exactly what I would love to live in and I so enjoy seeing your decorating photos. Susan, just keep doing what your doing and maybe throw in a little more personal stuff once in a while. You are so interesting. Love Bentley too. I have pugs, Phoebe, (who is in a wheel chair), Dutchy, Olita and Max. Well, Max is only an honorary pug, because he is outnumbered. LOL

  13. I've been blogging now for ten years and I suppose mine reflects the kinds of things I enjoy -- which is to say that it cuts across all lines. Sometimes it's travel, sometimes garden, sometimes home dec, sometimes cooking or books or nature and sometimes just life itself. I tend not to be a ranter (but sometimes I'll hit an issue for a post and then let it go online. That's pretty rare.)

I love visiting bloggers that give me an idea of who they are not just what they do or how clever or creative they are. I love that they are and I learn from that, so it's not a criticism of any I follow, but of those, the ones I will not skip, that I make a point to visit even if I've been away a few days and have LOADS to catch up on are those with whom I feel a personal connection with a blogger. That connection may have been built by visiting each others' blogs and through follow-up comments and email to those who share their address (which will resume on my end when Blogger gets notifications back!)or it may just have been built because I like them, I connect with them.

Not all my blog friends have my taste. Many have bigger budgets and grander homes, others are not so fortunate as I. They cut across age and socioeconomic boundaries, as well as geographic ones. I love mysteries and biographies or meaty novels; they may prefer slightly more romantic novels. But that's OK. Because in sharing that, it connects us. If my friends were carbon copies of me, we'd probably both go crazy and never grow.

So, with that in mind, I'd love to see more variation and personal elements while keeping the total loveliness and beauty you share here as well. And Bentley. Cannot have too much Bentley! It's a wonderful idea for a post -- and a brave one!

  14. Hi, I joined you because of the mini's blog. I love your sense of decorating, but I am at corner or precipice with my own blogs also. The Barbie blog is hit and miss, and the redo blog, is barely alive. I think it is normal to have dry periods, artistically and in life. I think even just admitting your are at a turning point is the best way to figure out what is best for you. Ultimately it is your decision, and not our opinions. If we don't follow our hearts..(even if we have mislaid them temporarily) we aren't going to be on our own unique path.

Great post! For myself, I have cut back on many bloggers because of ADS...and will continue to search out sweet, honest, artistic bloggers without ulterior motives. But, that's me...lol.
