At Least I Didn't Cry Today

I was shunned by my neighbor again today.  I came outside with
Bentley.  My neighbor was out with his three big dogs.  Bentley
started to head towards the fence because in the past, he loved
to visit with the big guys next door.  As soon as my neighbor saw
us, he grabbed the dogs and headed back inside.  Bentley was
left by the fence, whining.

Little Bentley is blind, as you all know.  I try to keep things
as happy for him as I can.  It's hard to know if Bentley
feels sad about not being able to visit with his doggie
friends again, or not.  I picked Bentley up and gave him
lots of kisses and hugs and we spent more time out in the
yard.  While the whole incident made me feel sad, I
did not cry this time.  I won't give the neighbor that
satisfaction.

Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

    1. I think I am the lucky one! Bentley has been a little angel since he was a tiny pup. Always sweet and loving to everyone.

  3. That was sad. Makes one wonder what the deal is with that neighbor. I know Bentley was happy to have you give him hugs and kisses, though. I hope you will meet a different neighbor who will be nice.

Why in the world would someone do that?

  5. Poor little guy. I would plant a very tall and very thick hedge so I wouldn't have to ever see this man again!

  6. Susan, I am so sorry your neighbor and other people have been rude to you. Some people are just miserable and have to share their unhappiness - and just can't stand to see other people happy. I don't know what all has been going on with you as I haven't read any blogs for several weeks. Have you tried to find any groups that have similar interests as you? Have you ever heard of Meet Up.com? I found some dog walking/hiking groups near me through that site. Keep your head up. Your attitude is everything.

    1. No, I have not reached out to anyone in the past few months. I did reach out and it wasn't great. It's always the same people in every group it seems.

  7. We just had a case in our community where a big dog killed a little dog, maybe the owner doesn't trust his dogs with little Bentley. But if that's the case he could at least explain that to you!! Poor little Bentley, he can come and visit my little Ginger anytime...she would love him!

  9. well, that is a neighbor you don't even want as a friend!! I hope you find some nice ones soon. You might have to look farther afield. Sometimes, the community college has a dog training class--not that Bentley needs training, but it would be a good way to meet other dogs and dog owners. Hugs to Good Dog Bentley.

    1. Because Bentley is blind now, he is quite shy around other dogs. I don't want to push him and risk making him feel uncomfortable. He has always been passive around other dogs, now he's more timid with his handicap.

  10. Now, Susan...you KNOW I can get teeth-spittin’ crazy on people when I have to! If I have to make that long drive, I’m gonna be EXTRA crazy...and that would NOT fare well for those who are doing you wrong!!! 🤼‍♀️ Whatever their problem is, karma is even crazier than me. So I’m really sorry people are making your life miserable, and I do hope karma takes care of it. Ugh! People!!!🙄 I hope good things happen for you this weekend.

    1. The neighbor treats my husband the same way. He was friendly when he first moved in, now he is not. Nothing has changed from our end. We just don't have any idea why this is happening.

  12. There is something going on here with miscommunication. Do you volunteer anywhere? Attend a church? I think you need to keep on reaching out if you want to seek a community to be a part of. A pastor or spouse of a pastor should be willing and able to sit down with some tea and have a soul to soul conversation about your wants and needs and experience in the community thus far...even if you don't belong to a certain church. I think I might try there....or your local veteranarian or might give your name to a fellow animal lover who might be a good fit for both you and Bently. Even in a small town, you can find your tribe. You just might have to be creative about how you find them and let them find you.

    1. Unfortunately I have given up trying to find my tribe here. I am blessed to have very good friends who live in other states. I stay in touch with them and they are my tribe.

  13. Your neighbor sounds like a very unhappy man. I think it was the Earl of Rochester who said that there were only two reasons for one man to hate another: jealousy and stupidity. I suspect your neighbor is one or both of these.

  16. Wish you lived in my neighborhood, you would never be shunned! It's sad that as grownups we teach children how to be inclusive yet, as adults, one viciously behaved in the total opposite.
You're talented and I have followed your blog for years,I unfortunately don't have one but I enjoy reading and learning.
Miss Susan, don't let this upset you...if only they knew just how many friends you have in blog land and personal, they would be green with envy.
It hurts but that is what bullies want...to see you wallow!
I hope this post cheers you up and Bentley, too!

  18. Oh, goodness, I'm so sorry your neighbor was so un-neighborly! But remember, whatever his problem is, it is HIS problem - you don't have to take any responsibility for his unfriendly actions and he just doesn't know what he is missing! I hope you'll find some friendly people around you soon.

  19. How very sad that a neighbor would treat you this way. You did not cry, you said, but believe me, I cried for you. I am so sorry for you and for Bentley. Why anybody is not friendly for no reason, is beyond me. Keep a smile on your face..don't let him get you down. You have plenty of friends, here on your wonderful blog, and you bring a smile to all of our faces, and we thank you for sharing your life with us.

  20. What is wrong with him? I'm so sorry this happened.

  21. I'm glad there's a fence there so the big dogs don't hurt Bentley. He doesn't need anymore medical issues. I hope they can't jump it. I will pray for you and Bentley for safety and happiness but I'll also pray for this neighbor that God softens his heart and matures his mind. I'll pray for all those in your area because this seems so childish-like something teenagers do. They all need to grow up. So sad that being a dog owner doesn't bring you two together on a friendly note. As many have said, misery loves company. Hang in there and give Bentley some extra hugs from me.

    2. I live in a terrible neighborhood where you would expect awful things to happen (lots of gang bangers, drug deals done in the open)and most people get pit bulls but I'm thankful my neighbors are somewhat decent-some things I would like to change but nothing on this level that you two ladies are dealing with. Their daughter/caregiver recently got a dog and I'm thankful it's a sweet small terrier mix. I will add you to my prayer list. I do believe in prayer, not just wishing or hoping but actually talking to God. My sweet little cocker spaniel got cancer in 2012, had a tumor removed and a year later got 3 inoperable tumors in her lymph nodes. They didn't think she would make it pass 2014. Sadly she passed away from complications of the cancer in July-I'm heartbroken but the doctors all called her "the miracle dog" so I do believe in prayer because God gave us 4 years the doctors didn't . Society is embracing all this anger/violence and it's a shame. It all began with the last election and bullying is on the rise-even promoted and tolerated where it wouldn't be in the past. Now men are at risk. I do believe men have sexually harassed women a lot in the past and present but to claim a man is guilty without proof is getting out of control. Women should not jump on this bandwagon because what if it happened to your father, brother or son? Every year our nation becomes more and more Godless and we see our nation deteriorating beyond belief-we need prayer more and more. Again society scoffs whenever you bring up God. I know I'm going off on a tangent but it's all related to the increased hate we're seeing. I pray for the two of you and your families.

  22. I am having a doggy neighbor problem also. My neighbor who moved here a few years ago has three vicious dogs who run to the fence and keep up a racket everytime I even open my front door. My backyard is unusable because they bark and snarl through the chain link fence the whole time I am out there. It is making me sick. I get headaches and have to go inside. I feel my blood pressure rising when that happens. My grandchildren cannot use the backyard when they visit. I tried to be nice to him about it, but he is nasty. I lived here first. I don't know what to do besides sell my home and move which is not really feasible right now. I am so stressed because I am going to have to get a lawyer and because of medical problems, I don't feel like fighting. I am at my wits end.
